I'd put a fully fit Roglic above outsprinting Mas TBF but not seen it yet. I'd agree Evenepoel was favourite though. What's annoying about Tuesday is that Evenepoel's puncture also adds doubt about whether the issue on Tuesday was simply the puncture (even though what we'd have learnt wouldn't necessarily have been decisive for the rest of the race).

I can't quite buy into any thoughts about anything odd with Remco's puncture. As pointed out to me elsewhere you get the group finish position at the point at which the incident occurs in the last 3km, so if you get a puncture and you know it will fail before the finish you are far better off stopping sooner (when you're still in group 1 or 2) rather than losing places by riding the rim to destruction and falling back to groups 3 or 4. It will always look less dramatic than a crash or a snapped chain, but the best advice once the 3km banner is passed is to stop immediately you think there is a problem. Obviously that stage was unusual in that it could have bene viewed as a non-3km finish style; it was in the middle between a pan flat sprinters finish and a medium MTF. And with what Roglic chose to do that day, it took on additional characteristics that meant it is fair to ask the question whether there should have been a 3km safety zone on that stage. And in the particular circumstances of that stage, even if Remco had been on a less than 100% day he'd not have lost a huge amount anyway tempoing into to the finish, so the thought that he would risk it all by stopping for a contrived puncture (or no puncture at all) seems equally unlikely. He'd already been through similar scenarios on previous finishes where he had to back himself to maintain a steady tempo to the finish. |

I wasn't say there was anything odd. That has been put to bed TBH.

I'm referring to his legs. Did he have the legs to go with Roglic or not? We don't know because of the puncture.

I was surprised by that but when Ned explained it’s mainly due to police resources, especially motos, being need back in London it makes sense. Sad to miss the Isle of Wight stage as I had many childhood holidays there |

I wish they were open about the ToB and said it was cancelled due to police needed elsewhere rather than as a mark of respect. One day maybe, but not all 3. As a mark of respect I won't pay for the next beer I'm served at a pub because she wouldn't have. See how far that gets me. (about 20 yards to the door I expect) |

um
Chrisity - the notice I got was fairly clear. Yes, it included the words 'mark of respect', but it does say operational difficulties meant the race couldn't continue anyway. Not just pause or miss a stage. This decision has been taken in consultation with stakeholders and partners as a mark of respect and in light of operational circumstances, including the understandable reassignment of police resource at this time, which means that the race cannot continue. |
