Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

TROSaracen wrote:All getting a bit murkier with Haigh - now looking like she was pushed by McSweeney for not declaring the conviction when accepting the cabinet role which is a breach of ministerial code (according to the Granuid). Sounds like we're well shot, definite lack of integrity/judgement (or, in plain English, a serial liar).

Three sources said Haigh had told Starmer about the conviction when she became shadow Northern Ireland secretary in 2020.

However, Starmer’s official spokesperson refused to confirm on Friday whether the prime minister knew about the conviction at any point.

In a briefing with reporters, the spokesperson repeated the same line that “following further information emerging, the prime minister has accepted Louise Haigh’s resignation”.

In a series of bizarre exchanges, the spokesperson gave the same scripted line when asked what the prime minister knew about Haigh’s spent conviction, what further information had emerged, and why he had appointed her to cabinet if he knew about the offence.

Depends what's right, what's wrong about the above then ...

I notice her line, for one, “whatever the facts of the matter, this issue will inevitably be a distraction from delivering the work of this government”.

I was surprised by the margin - I had expected it to narrowly fail due to so many people hiding behind faith and allusions to Canada.

I'm glad this is now something that will get proper work and scrutiny, and I know it will be something my housemate will watch closely - although his condition wouldn't qualify him, I know there will come a time where living will simply be too painful to bear. I've told him he's not allowed to go before me though.

No worries. The thread moves fast :) FYI: reuters.com Singapore is interested in it.

Think the ban should extend to the use of AI to help children's development. I am currently seeing a lack of critical thinking skills in the work place with AI responses.

The assisted dying law won't have much bearing on the "die after a couple of years in a care home" cases as you need to have had a 6mo diagnosis and most people in care homes would be incapable of making a decision at that point anyway.

Going back to immigration, this is good from the News Agents. It's all obvious really but the mainstream politicians continue to play to the crowd.

This is something that has been bothering me. The reform vote in Scotland seems to be picking up and I don’t understand why. Much as I disagree, it would have been informative to explore some of the thinking behind this.

My Romanian colleague, who lives in Aberdeen, said he voted for reform because he thought we needed somebody different in power.

No, he's not a fan of Putin but he's anti EU.
