Yep, and the presumption that she's been "caught out". Based on no evidence whatsover? Happy to retract of course when the BBC issues a statement that they've discovered malpractice on her part; but in the absence of that, why not just take her statement at face value? |

In other weird conspiracy news, apparently the "superinjunction" that we're expected to believe is in place around Starmer is in relation to either him fathering a child beyond his immediate family, or that one of his children is transitioning from a gender perspective. So now that story gathers momentum, in the utter absence of any rational reason why it should be so. Guido Fawkes making reference to "we have the birth certificate" etc etc. On the one hand I would much prefer to be able to write off this nonsense as classic "Freddie Starr ate my hamster" stuff, so should just ignore the nonsense on Twitter. OTOH, this stuff does gather energy and does impact the political debate, for all the wrong reasons. So it's better to at least be aware of it. |

I wonder how much the news stream would improve if journalists stopped using Twitter as a source? It seemed to really blossom during Trump's presidency "President Trump has tweeted xyz" - it should be "well who the fuck cares what's on a social network". I'd block the website if I was dictator. The world would be a better place without Twitter, Facebook, Telegram, etc. |

The state of journalism in our country - for a variety of reasons and Twitter is one - has gone viciously downhill. The other day the top 2 stories on my local (and once very great regional paper) were TV star (long ago one at that) eats in restaurant, and Greggs opens (another) outlet in a petrol station. |

I guess we shouldn't be surprised when the print media was equally capable of creating "journalists" who could spout whatever nonsense they liked and get it onto the breakfast table of millions every day. Providing they didn't libel anyone. Fellow citizens without the ability or desire to scrutinise for facts or inconsistencies just suck up these stories. Twitter then arrives and the whole thing snowballs, alongside other "new media" like GB News etc, creating characters like Dan Wootton who people ascribe validity to without worrying about truth, honesty etc. |

I’m old enough to remember Dan Wootton complaining about made-up personal stories and it made him realise how professional he needed to be in the future.

I was hoping to leave the Accountancy profession and become a sports journalist. I started writing for the givemesport academy. Basically some nice free labour to write their clickbait crap. God it is awful. They dealt with the headline and I think had to write 300-500 words on some tripe or other. The industry and tactics were even grubbier than I had expected. |

Think it's a US based. The UK ownership of Chagos has been appalling. They kick out local indigenous villages at the behest if the US in order for the US to have their air base. |
