They aren’t formally under direct control of course. But they generally jump to attention when asked. As for Japan, you can do a bit of research or not, it’s not hard.

Can't be arsed to read, lazy, rude, ad homien attacks and when asked genuinely for information on a subject I know nothing about, you just keep arguing in bad faith.

I won't describe what I would like to Well done, you've earned yourself the 2nd person to join the kitten club. You are no better than the first person in that particular place.

Rude for sure, but the point that the geopolitics of the US and other powerful nations amounts to something that resembles imperialism is about right.
A little over the top perhaps, as really it is varying degrees of influence with only the highest degrees of influence being what amounts to complete authority or empire.

Could you kindly point to the personal attacks? I would argue the constant dismissal of a point of view is a personal attack, it certainly doesn’t foster debate.

As an example of a non-traditional empire France still maintains its massive interest in Francophone Africa via economical ties and some less than benevolent leaders.

I was just checking you'd remembered, given your memory lapse.

Name-calling will be called out, and Ad hominem will be frowned upon. :-) And whatabout-ery sits somewhere above responding to tone and below contradiction.
