It's a good job that certain deathmatch organisers don't frequent this thread often otherwise there'd be a new one popping up in the next few hours....

Looks like a mild uplift for Harris in early polls, kind of back to ‘close but Trump leading’ from the post debate Trump certain to win direction of travel. But at least the game is on now, so we’re up on the deal. The huge positive is that it will be settled by the campaign. I’ve heard many say that ‘if it’s a referendum on Biden, Trump wins. If it’s a referendum on Trump, Biden wins’. Cognitive issues made it a referendum on Biden, and that’s off the table now. So really it’s about whose attack lines stick, and who can move the needle in debate 2. Kamala knows hers, Trump has to urgently rustle up some new ones. There’s some lovely symmetry with Kamala being former prosecutor and Trump a felon…. I still think the sun belt is gone, so it’s all about the rust belt where this is won/lost. I’d have it 60:40 for Trump, but that’s up from 100:0 post debate and I had it 80:20 pre debate. Buckle up! |

Polls are a bit wonky and have been for a while in the US see: 2024 National GE, Among voters age 18-34: (Quinnipiac) Trump 58% (+19) Harris 39% x.com Same poll has Harris ahead with the over 65s. Uh-uh, plain wrong. |

Not sure any opinion polling will have accurately sampled enough data to gauge the change in circumstances yet - it's likely to be early next week before anything reliable can be ascertained I'd have thought. |

@paulcook amazed that you said you'd rather have Sunak or Biden. I watched some of the Vance rally yesterday and obviously he was speaking to the converted but he really is mini Trump with his they're all crazy and out to get us rhetoric. I heard the line about Mountain Dew live (part of comment about everything being racist these days) and it didn't make much sense then and didn't seem to get much reaction (of course the base agree with everything being racist). Has anyone said the Labour government isn't doing anything positive or have a few people highlighted an issue they are passionate about that they'd like the Labour government to do something about? |

If I remember correctly, Sunak did some stuff (sold land etc) to ensure HS2 couldn't be revived? At least easily anyway.
