Surely, you just have an "Insiders" list, maintained by the political parties themselves for those with membership, said list open to the Gambling Commission, and a requirement for Independent candidates/MPs etc. for public office to register directly with the Gambling Commission. There's already a similar requirement for every company listed on the LSE, with the FCA etc.. And absolutely, Insurance is a bet you (should) hope to never win. The key difference is that Insurance is intended to put you back to a position you'd be in if an incident never occurred. Not to make a profit from. They call that fraud, I believe. |

And in some instances you must have insurance. Driving for example. Cover for third party liability is a requirement under the law. Can’t immediately think of a situation where the law says you have to have a bet with a bookmaker. |

I was referring to the guy betting on losing. Agree that betting on insider knowledge is different. Insurance is precisely betting on losing (you get a payout in the case of a loss) and the resulting moral hazard when you can affect the likelihood of outcome (which is often the case) is extensively discussed in economics.

CCHQ has lost the plot. Certainly its social media team. Apparently, their latest Twix is: "you know what would go up under Labour?" followed by the word "tax" about 4000 times. Especially bold given it's widely known that taxes have gone up significantly under this government. But the wider point is that they've been trying to hammer this point home for about 3-4months that Labour would put up taxes. Zero effect. |

Here's the twix if you want to see the loss of ability to cognitively function in real time. nitter.poast.org Looks like they've given the reins to a 5 year old. |

Virtually everything they've been saying has been Labour this, Labour that. They have nothing to promote that they're going to do, no record to defend. It's utterly, utterly pathetic. I understand some people vote Conservative because they're conservative, etc, but I cannot otherwise see a single reason to vote for them. And they're not providing any reasons. |

The comments are excellent! “Has the 12 year old who normally runs this account gone on holiday and handed the reigns over to their 8 year old sibling?” “What are the conservatives doing now? Shitting themselves shitting themselves” etc |

It's almost as if their social media team is a group of students who happen to be Tories playing with the official account. TBH, I bet internally they don't really know how to use social media, so some youngsters who have been given the reins have carte blanche to do stuff because they can bluff the older campaigners that they are young therefore know what they are doing.

As for social media, supposedly Farage is bossing TikTok. Is that largely bottish, or will it even translate to votes? |

I'd like to hope that the generational skew on tiktok means he might be bossing it because his videos are hilarious, but won't be actually gaining any votes. But I could be wildly wrong!!
