Badenoch, Braverman and Smeagol fighting for the top spot on the Tory dung heap is all good news for Labour.

Insurance literally underpins the modern economy.

Both insurance and betting are about probabilities though perhaps the comparisons end there.

Yes, although actuarial tables are order of magnitude different to a bloke with a Gladstone bag full of cash at Newmarket.

I think 3M described it best. Insurance is about loss not profit. Anyway.

Tennant's wording at his LGBTQ award about Badenoch "not existing" and would like her to "shut up" wasn't very well phrased. Of course, it wasn't about her race or gender but that can and has been thrown back at him. Dawn Butler from Labour did reply to say "not all black, female MPs agree with that" to Badenoch's riposte though!

As others have pointed out, in Financial services there are lots of rules about things we can and cannot do if we wish to continue to work in that space. Politicians it sometimes seems have very few rules or restrictions. When they really ought to be held to the highest of standards.

If you write the rules you get to bend the rules.

I find that engagement interesting between Tennant and Badenoch; she immediately addresses the issue from the perspective of a white male attacking a black female, and she is 100% right that that power dynamic is so often very imbalanced. But she is, in fact, a powerful voice in her own right, so is it unfair to throw that back at Tennant? Or am I just viewing this from a poor, pitiful position of being a white male myself and standing up for someone "like me"?

Are you saying that any white male is now allowed no disagree with a black female?

Because you are

Allowed that is

What you may not do is assume you are right because it's that dynamic

That's why I pointed out that instead of having the debate, Badenoch immediately weaponised her gender and race

If she was so sure of her ground then she could have let Tenent hang himself, instead she went off on an anti 'leftist' rant

It's certainly a thought that occurred to me - is it right and proper, in the context of the broad power imbalance that has existed between those two cohorts of people, that one group's first response to criticism is to lean on the historic power imbalance as their criticism of the position?

I would always prefer everyone to engage solely on the issues. Badenoch chose not to do that (though there weren't many substantive issues, to be fair!)
