Yeah I'm thinking national service ain't going to much to the polls on further reflection. Meanwhile Tory poll "expert" says the polls are wrong: theguardian.com He seems to be arguing for what Opinium already do (call 2019 Tory voters who are currently don't knows under the Tory column). I think he's wrong. I think some will come back, but there are serious levels of "they are clowns and I can't vote for them again". I think some analysts have a hard time admitting voters stay at home if they don't like the main options. Feels like wishful thinking on his behalf? Thoughts? |

No idea! ION: I went to the pub to meet and nominate the Labour candidate today. We don't yet know who the Tory candidate will be but the Labour chair thinks it will be Jonathan Gullis. FFS! Also, Andy Street will run for Solihull. If he stood in Stratford-upon-Avon he would walk it. |

How many voters vote on single issue in a General election and how significant does that issue need to be? National service doesn't seem to be that type of issue so needs to be part of a bigger picture to have any chance to work IMO.

Steve Baker also wrote a piece for someone this morning trashing the national service idocy and says no one discussed it with him - a minister for northern Ireland, where there may be some issues with it...

I suspect many won't pick up on all this, but the chaos must be obvious to even the most uninterested. The national service thing has cut through though - but with people thinking it's a stupid idea. |

I think that the Tory analyst is clutching at straws. At worst it means a hefty labour majority. At best it's wipe out. The assigning of 2019 Tory voters saying don't know is not of a sufficient size to result in even a small labour majority As John Curtice said it'd have to take the historic biggest polling miss and the biggest narrowing of the polls for the Tories to enter hung parliament territory. And nothing Sunak has done since announcing the election will have helped him in the slightest |

Interesting about Andy Street! Perhaps he sees which way the wind is blowing.
