Are you a Half Man Half Biscuit fan Johnny Blaze? And I wonder if they’ll bring back National Service and the birch And I wonder but I doubt if they will ever bring back the Watney Cup From Rod Hull is Alive - Why? When I woke up this morning I thought I'd dreamt the bring back national service thing, but alas no. |

Won’t need paying for because it will be privatised (because that works a treat) and will come out of the existing Armed Forces budget. By making “efficiency savings” (because that works a treat as well) and farming it out to the lowest bidder. Could be done for about three quid, some Green Shield stamps and some Embassy coupons seeing as how we appear to be going back to the fifties.

I'm an old fart myself and I just know what other old farts thirst for... The Tories have moved the Overton Window decisively to the right now and Reform have to respond. They are both scrapping over the 1/3 angry old pensioner vote. This will get worse. Death penalty for people who murder cops and children is up next. Or possibly a towback strategy for the small boats. Reform don't have a govt to form: they are populist opportunist, so how low will they go? Labour just have to put out a contrast message: increase the franchise, fairer taxes, rebuild public services. |

They are suggesting a Royal Commission to look into National Service. I am no way in favour of forcing young people to do this but I assume there will be a get out of national service clause for those who can pay. And according to news the other day our prisons are already full, so what punishment for those who refuse. |

Re the 2019 manifesto. I did a quick search and found that polling around the time said Corbyn and Brexit were the two main reasons for not voting Labour. Policies were 15%. Still don't see how Labour win 2019 with Corbyn as a pro remain campaign wasn't going to cut it. |

I think the numbers are capped at 30,000 per year Armed Forces. Every other teenager in the country is forced to volunteer for 25 days per year with another organisation like the NHS. |

What on earth is the NHS (or the fire service or police or indeed a third sector provider) going to DO with 25 days of untrained labour? These services are so pared back there's no capacity to babysit recalcitrant teens. Or to get the best put of able and committed ones for that matter.

I'd ask every Tory MP with teenage children if theyve discussed with their kids, what the kids said and whether they would expect their kids would do it. Sunak has blindsided his own MPs, indicating again that nice, neat, hardworking Rishi is just another nasty rightwing creep when you scratch beneath the surface. |
