presumption of innocence Nice idea, but it'll never catch on. Not if there are political points to score. |

Criticism of the IFS, its biases and methodology.https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/oureconomy/we-need-talk-about-institute-fiscal-studies/ In my view, they approach economic issues like accountants and only look at 'if the numbers stack up'. I'm also concerned that they appear to be the only voices in the mainstream media when it comes to policy analysis. They have too much power to set the national narrative. On the specifics on Scottish independence, they and many other think tanks take the view that Scotland will need to spend on everything that we do in the UK, and numbers are usually based on GERS. Spending in Scotland could be completely different. I would anticipate a much-reduced budget for defence, for example. The issues with GERS are well documented, and their origin was for political reasons and not for any clarity on Scotland's revenues and expenditures. These are only my opinions, of course. But I am entitled to them, and they threaten no one's liberty or reputation but my own. If that's Brexity, fill your boots. |

bbc.co.uk Israel has reacted angrily to comments made by the UN secretary general about the Gaza war at the Security Council. António Guterres said on Tuesday that he condemned unequivocally Hamas's deadly attacks in Israel two weeks ago but that it was important to recognise they "did not happen in a vacuum". Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan accused him of "justifying terrorism" and demanded his immediate resignation. |

Are they trying to join Putin & Jung un on the pariah bench ? |

Israel joining the US in not paying any attention to the UN and wanting to be above the law. Keir Starmer doesn’t think it’s the right time for a ceasefire. Not enough dead Palestinians yet clearly |

Israel refusing to issues visas for UN representatives seems wild. Honestly I don't get half of what's going on. Like the tip-toeing around any ceasefire for another. |

Can only assume Israel wants to bomb Gaza so everyone who is left alive leaves as a refugee, and then take over the land |

Any of the fans of the union who post on here want to criticise these young people for wanting to be free of the UK and be part of a united Ireland? theguardian.com |

Thanks SN. No, that was a good considered reply. I shall have a read of your link and consider your arguments and then reply when I have done so.

You’re not allowed to criticise anything the Israeli govt does, it makes you the Enemy of the People. Oh no, that was when you criticise the British govt. Criticising the Israeli govt makes you an anti-Semitic terrorist sympathiser. Even if they are committing genocide. Who am I kidding? *when* they are committing genocide. There’s no “if”. |
