Macca, my mum used to work at the Cussons factory.

We had loads of free soap. Perks of the job eh?

Haven't been there in yonks. Salford was changing when I moved down to Warks and I imagine I'd get lost there now. Docklands and Media City and all that. I can't be too unhappy because that was a slum area for decades and not the greatest place to live.

I quite like Lisa Nandy. She always gives a good account of herself on QT, which garners plus points in my eyes. Burgon… sheesh. He’s a train wreck waiting to happen.

My friend lives in Nandy's stomping ground - I think she'd very much disagree with you here. But she's going nowhere, a dog in a red rosette would get in there.

Salford is still (largely) a hole. Lots of gentrification, but it's just the lipstick on the pig.

I like JB's future image of the Tories, but there certainly seemed to be a large number of young Torys stinking up Manchester a few weeks ago. They stood out, so utterly out of place.

That’s the thing, you can tell the young Torys a mile off. We had a group around here, gaffawing, being rude to cafe staff etc. Obnoxious little *****. Trouble is, if I was a betting man, I’d put money on the Torys still getting in here (Torbay) at the next GE, even though the MP is a total waste of space in my opinion. I’ll be voting Lib Deb, as that way there is a chance the Tory may be given the boot, which is my main aim with my vote in the system we have.

I’m in Torquay right now Big G, you can tell that Halloween is just over a week away from a quick look around or do the folk of Torbay look like this the rest of the year? :-)

The Tories have had no chance in my area since the 1997 election. Labour took it then and have held it it since with closest election since was the 2010 election when the Respect candidate came second. The last two elections Labour has had 70% or more of the vote. The one before was 60% and was essentially the Respect vote going back to Labour. Tory support has basically not changed in terms of numbers for the last four elections (7-8k).

In terms of PR, the 2010 election I mentioned above is what Labour are worried about. They are scared that the broad church will have somewhere else to go. Starmer's current strategy would be dangerous under PR as he has essentially taken his base support for granted calculating that they won't vote Tory and no one else is a danger or appealing to those voters.

I cannot make my mind up on Nandy.

I have a dilemma at the GE. I want a labour government and want to vote that way. but I live in a tory seat that has turned Lib Dem since the tories became unvoteable up here. The seat was once won by SNP * and they are the alternative if I dont vote Lib Dem.

* one former work colleague unseated another former work colleague. Both of whom worked together for a while

I hope you weren’t one of those young scamps promising to look after your car for 10 pence in the terraced streets off Ordsall Lane (how cheap was that in the early 70s!)? I used to similar work around Ancoats - now hipster central in the converted mills.

I live in a classic swing seat (along with paulcook) and I’m pretty sure Labour will get in here. We’ve had cabinet ministers of both major parties as our MP in the not that distant past (Alan Milburn, Michael Fallon). Labour hold in 2017 (much to the surprise of the sitting MP), turning Con in 2019, red wall money sloshing around making visible if cosmetic changes and bringing civil service jobs.

Fields, I’m in Exeter (Labour) at the moment which, in the main, feels much more civilised compared to Torquay, although I of course appreciate it has its problems too. Generally though, I think it’s a great city and I visit often for various reasons.
