Trump may well be the republican nominee, although I'm less certain than many commentators seem to be that he'll get the nod. He loses any GE though. The criminal charges are fatal. And I mean just being charged. The republican party lunatic fringe has taken over the party. Independent voters won't vote for a president like Trump now. |

Reason I'm so certain is that he got thumped in 2020 and although biden may be unpopular, there's no evidence of that trump has regained the voters he needs to become president.

The Georgia trial will be televised as well. I once did juror service and the usher said to me, “90% of the ones who end up here are guilty”. Seems reasonable. |

That usher committed a criminal offence.

With hindsight I see you are correct. Although he may have said it to me after the verdict, I can’t remember.

The conviction rate in England and Wales was 83.6 percent in magistrates courts and 77.9 percent in crown courts, as of the first quarter of 2022. Close enough. Don’t know why we bother with trials at all, tbh. Could be a good cost saving measure. Plus, turn em into dog food. |

Labour now abandoning pledges to help those in the gig economy, as part of their toadying up to business. No longer are they the party of the worker, they’re all about the boss class. Presumably they’ve done their electoral maths and realised helping a group of people who largely can’t vote, doesn’t work for them. |

An interesting read this. While we have had no coup, unlike Chile, it’s noticeable how the possibility of a social democratic prime minister in the UK a few years ago made the powers of capital nervous - and how for example it was viewed as fine for soldiers to use pictures of Jeremy Corbyn as target practice. theguardian.com |

An interesting read this. While we have had no coup, unlike Chile, it’s noticeable ... [snipped] ... how for example it was viewed as fine for soldiers to use pictures of Jeremy Corbyn as target practice. Was it viewed as fine? Or was it condenmed and sanctioned? Not defending the soliders or their direct leaders, just challenging the "viewed as fine" comment. |
