Also ULEZ costing Labour votes in Uxbridge (see this thread): twitter.com Really the left and greens need to get out there and get a good emotive message out in support of ULEZ, currently it's a utilitarian message vs emotive, and we know how that went with Brexit. |

The problem with “British people for British jobs” is that you really have to have a clue about where people will be needed - now and in the future - and you need a plan on how to fill them, plus how to temporarily fix any shortages. The Tories never think any of that through: they just hit the “stop immigration” button for easy votes and then they are stuck on the hook for decades as they are painted into a corner. The lack of a plan on Brexit just made things a heck of a lot worse as the labour inflows dried up. COVID also exacerbated the situation. The past influences the future sure enough and they are on the rack now because of their own past stupidity. They will continue to cling to their ideological positions as the country gradually falls apart, and they won’t let the evidence change them, which is why we need the stables cleaning out so someone else can have a go. We have to get rid of these clowns or they will continue to drag us all down whilst lining their own pockets as we sink further and further into the mire. |

But. But. But. Brexit was meant to solve all these problems. That's what they said. And the unapologetic brexiters still claim the same. Can't all have been bollocks can it? |

Johnson attacking ULEZ in Uxbridge through his Daily Mail column: news.sky.com He's still got that populist vibe going on, his style of argument will appeal to a lot of his readers I suspect |

The ULEZ thing pisses me off. Some Tory wanker on R4 the other morning trying to base his objections to breathable air is that poorer people are affected the most the carers etc in London. There is an element of truth to that for sure, but what they really meant was rich range rover driving twats, who whether you base the zone on emissions or stupidly unsuitable vehicles are the actual problem. Basically another Tory exploiting workers for their own convenience. People all want to save the planet, until it means they're mildly put out. |

Ofcom starting to wake up to Tory manipulation of the media: bbc.co.uk - Rees-Mogg presenting on GB News - Dorries has her own show on Talk TV - Johnson with his Daily Mail column - Braverman went to Rwanda and invited only Daily Mail, Telegraph, GB News to get coverage - Sunak now only takes questions from certain news outlets at press conferences (you can guess who is excluded) according to journalists in attendance. This feels like a game that only one side are fully engaged in. |

They know they are so found out they only want the softest of media interaction. But it backfires when they get questioned in forums they cannot control and end up getting very scrappy. It's no wonder they've taken to channelling Goebbels' spirit. |

Ah, but now he has invented an 82 year old pensioner who will not be able to drive to church without paying £12.50 for the privilege so it's completely different.
