Monster thread where someone live tweeted Trump's announcement speech last night:

threadreaderapp.com

Several major news networks cut away mid speech as he rambled all over the place. Feels like Biden not standing for 2024 would perhaps strengthen their hand? Depending on who they put forward of course.

Just trying to gauge the appetite of bloodthirstiness on the thread for foreign working class people to die to defend some land thousands of miles away.

Yeah, it's fine for the working class of that foreign land (both in their armed forces and those who aren't) to be the only ones to be charged with pushing back an aggressor like Russia. So long as our working class are protected, to hell with foreigners eh!

Really no idea what you are going on about. Your specious debating points get quite wearing after a while.
Ukraine is an ally and there seems to have been an accident.
Russia has invaded Ukraine and is committing war crimes on a daily basis. A Russian strike on a NATO ally would be a belligerent act if it was intended.

Equating these two things as being "the same" is a completely fallacious argument.

Am I right in thinking De Santis is popular with Cubans in Florida?

Always amazes me how like here first or second generation immigrants can often be very right wing. Although to be fair, in Central & South American there’s no doubt complicated issues involved.

A bayonet is a weapon with a working man at either end is something we should all consider carefully tbf.

If you've arrived in the USA from Cuba or Venezuela, you have a somewhat different opinion of "socialism".

Fields, I have a bit of a soft spot for pacifism myself. Who doesn't? It certainly beats war-mongering. But there are surely times when it's not enough. In 1939, when Hitler invaded Poland, what should Britain have done then? Wrung our hands a bit and said, "Oh, well, we don't like that, but so be it" and left the Poles to their fate?

There are points in history when people who only respect force, power, make their mark, and you cannot reason with them, you cannot persuade them with pacifist ideals. 1939 was one such point, and Putin's invasion of Ukraine in 2021 is another. For Putin, anything other than military force is weakness to be exploited, and, sadly, the only way to beat them back is with greater military force. A necessary evil.

So the missile was likely a Ukrainian one which hit Poland. Therefore NATO should invade Ukraine, for attacking a NATO member. Discuss.

This shows a willfull and intentional lack of nuance & understanding of the situation. Is this really the thread for you?

Simplism. Always simplism.

And when reality doesn't fit with simplism, it's always someone else's fault.
