If I understand rightly, if & when a candidate hits 100 votes, she or he is PM: iow, the count stops. But what if the count went on, and one candidate polled more votes than the candidate who reached 100 first? |

I think the poll is open until Mon eve. If more than one has 100 backers, then there is a vote.

Bob!
Nominations close at 2pm. If only one has received 100 nominations (an MP does not have to nominate anyone), the that person becomes Conservative Party leader, and therefore PM. If there is more than one candidate then ballot(s) of MP's will be held. If there are 3 candidates then the first ballot will eliminate the one with the lowest number of votes. The final ballot will be an indicative vote where MP's will indicate to the party members who is their preferred candidate. (The 1922 hope is that the candidate with the least votes stands down at this stage). If neither of the candidates stand down at this point, however, the party will hold an “expedited, binding, online vote of Conservative Party members” to choose the next leader. |

Thanks also to you, Bob! So, 'By general acclaim' is not going to feature, it seems.

Times: EXCLUSIVE: Thousands of elderly Conservative Party members could be excluded from voting in the leadership contest because the party does not have an email address for them. Who saw that coming… |
