I'd totally forgotten about Greenland being part of the EU. Though I did wonder if the US has to attack itself (clearly not anyway) as a NATO member attacking another NATO member. Either Greenland or Canada. I'm guessing Trump is more likely going to pull some economic strings as a matter of trying to get any insane ideas he has off the floor. |

(O/T but hey). Greenland isn't strictly part of the EU - they have a kind of special associated territory type status. They voted to leave in the eighties over fisheries policy and a ban on the use of seal fur and and did so a few years later, when they got home rule from Denmark.

Trump clearly wants to emulate his buddy Vlad. The next 4 years are going to be insane.

Greenland could still rejoin the EU too. Be like Ukraine et al all over again on that score too. This is all about natural resources and mining. |

It wouldn't surprise me if he dangled a wad of dollars in front of them to "encourage" them to declare independence. After that they are fair game.

They would be - if they became independent from Denmark then they would have to apply to join the EU & NATO until that happened they would be open to invasion with no protections.

"Greenland could still rejoin the EU too" No we al agree that's impossible, it takes centuries.....they can't even start to talk about it for another generation or two. |

Only 56000 people. There may be some tricky discussions over seal pelts and swizzle but I'm sure that could be dealt with quickly.

Not sure why they'd consider it at the moment to be honest. As you say there'll be tricky discussions over seal pelts, and they get EU citizenship / eligible for funding anyway (I think). Sounds like they got the cake and ate it. 😉😉😉😉 |
