In fairness to Eton, the school teacher who wrote the famous report about Boris was clearly smart enough to see exactly what kind of character he was.

Steve Baker would be an utter disaster.

Can't see it happening though.

The Independent has the invoice for the Johnsons' flat refurbishment.

Boris & Carrie Johnson’s spending is absolutely eye-watering:

Tablecloth £500
Table lamp £6000
Shade for said lamp £2500
Rug £7000
2 sofas £15,000
Antique chair £4200
Curtains £21,280
Paintwork £30,000

This is what they were doing while we were dying in our thousands. Despicable.

It's funny, I used to work just outside of Macc and always considered it a bit of a dump and was genuinely surprised to learn it was staunch blue as a constituency.

But the town is pretty different from the rural villages around I suppose, including Prestbury which is home to plenty of footballers.

There must be scores of similar constituencies which don't actually or always reflect their core town.

I used to work in Keighley, probably as Labour a town as you could get, but it's a swing seat because it also includes some very blue commuter and tourist villages like Haworth, and also millionaire's row in Ilkley.

Now I'm in Darlington another swing seat. Again many parts of the town impoverished, low on the deprived scores and very Labour, other parts of the town are completely the opposite and will vote nothing but blue. A few smatterings of villages, add in Brexit, and it was swung easily back to Tories last time.

Oops! Looks like I stand corrected on Macc. It's just that I always remembered Macclesfield and Congleton as being just about as safe Tory as you can get. I used to live in Mytholmroyd in West Yorkshire, our constituency was Calder Valley which was marginal but seems to be going safe Tory. Now we're in Edinburgh SW which is fairly safe SNP.
