I know a chap who went to Eton too, not on a scholarship AFAIK though. He's lovely, but his older brother is pure gammon.
He knew Ree-smug at school, apparently, and said his political views don't seem to have evolved since he was 13, which is pretty damning.

Back to Macc. My son lives there after moving down to start a job with AstraZ. - which employs most of the town I think. Lot cheaper than Manchester. A "typical" town as far as I can tell.

Yes, AZ is a huge deal around there. And it is remarkably close to Manchester in truth, with pretty good access to the edge of the Peak District too. It's not exactly economically thriving as a town centre, but then most aren't these days. Quality of life is probably pretty good all in all.

Another reason why all the talk of Bunter calling a snap election was nonsense. His whole threat of "this could let Labour / SNP in by the backdoor" was basically predicated on him threatening them that he'd go "full postal" on them and make things so bad that even the turkeys would vote for Christmas in a NC vote and trigger a GE. Which was a pretty ludicrious argument.
If he'd stuck with the "mandate" argument only at least it would have had some political credibility (even though that is obviously a specious argument too in that the revolt wasn't about policy or even "style" in the manner voted for by the electorate, but about the "style" that he demonstrated which wasn't part of his campaign strategym, even though it was hiding in plain sight).

Is Sir Beer Korma still gonnae be a thing from Zorba? Or will it be consigned to history now heโs been cleared? ๐

Terrible news on Starmer being cleared, as Tories will elect Sunak/Javid and it will be a snoozefest. Sunak leads Starmer in the hypothetical head to heads. Not good. It would have given Labour such morale high ground too, and perhaps starting restoring a bit of decency to politics.
Not to mention Labour need charisma, and Burnham is their most popular politician by a mile. But on the other hand, I want PR and having the Lib Dems in coalition with Labour is the most likely way we'll get it. Soo....

Ditto. Our electoral system, right now, just seems broken to me. PR ain't a priority, but I'd like to think it might create more unity and focus the other priorities. Clive Lewis was again calling for it to be a priority of the Labour party yesterday, though not sure how close he is to party hierarchy any more.

I don't think much of Sunak. The Labour attack lines are obvious and he seems very superficial and thin-skinned. Plenty to hope for now.
Starmdalf will smite him with Anduril, Flame of the West, The Sword That Was Broken (thanks to Corbyn).
