ION, looks like from Raab's interviews this morning, that the decision on BLM is that the govt are going to play "fight the culture war card" - Johnson's column about statues, Raab this morning apparently compared the kneeling at the Premier league games last night to something out of game of thrones.

Fozzy I agree that 'optics' is the important thing for BJ's government. Perhaps we should be thankful for this small mercy. Just as hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue, the pursuit of good optics might be our best hope that BJ’s government will sometimes act in the public interest.

I don't agree. The Tories U-turn on school meals, forinstance, had little to do with their policy or views, in fact, I see it as an attempt at being seen to do the right thing, rather actually knowing what the right thing is to do. They ARE NOT acting in the public interest, only their own and the minority of people that vote for them, after all, and never forget, they are Tories. |

Apparently the coal fire up was a test after maintenance, ref The Times Drax Group confirmed that it had fired up one of the coal-burning units at its Drax power plant in North Yorkshire on Tuesday night to carry out tests after maintenance. The plant was not required by National Grid to help to keep the lights on. Full article thetimes.co.uk |

WS, I think you missed my point. I am inclined to think that the reversal on school meals was a good thing despite being motivated more by optics than policy.

So after DFID being axed, next up is Dept for International Trade. ft.com This is all about concentrating power in as few people who are absolute believers as possible. |
