Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I also thought the More or Less programme was enlightening! Depressing, but enlightening.

Mind you, I also thought the programme after it - "Legacy of War" - was very interesting, about John Beckett (British Fascist with Moseley), and a long interview with his son, Francis. The impact of being an anti-hero's family on your life.

bbc.co.uk - including some thoughtful comments about fascism & antisemitism, and people surrendering their decision making to the "strong leader".

We were discussing a while back the impact of the Liverpool / Athletico match on the Covid outbreak. This research reported by the Beeb suggests it was minimal.

Other interesting stuff about the routes that brought Covid to the UK too

The article didn’t mention the Cheltenham Festival either, most of the attendees from abroad (maybe even a majority?) come from Ireland and since the Republic isn’t mentioned as a source, the traffic may have been the other way, unfortunately.

So closing the borders would have been a better tactic, then?

Sushi.
I know of people that were ill with C19 symptoms earlier than it was meant to be in this country, haven’t been ill since and have had positive antibody tests.

Which is interesting as not just one or two

Sounds like it. Specifically, closing the borders to Europe, not Asia! (Lawdy, makes me sound like I am in favour of Brexit :-( )

Yes - for such an inward looking hateful party, I'm surprised the Tories didn't consider doing that at the first opportunity... but as we know when push comes to shove, money from businesses first, people's lives second.

Ultimately what I fear from a no-deal Brexit isn't that we shut the borders, but that we create a firmly two tier society where the less well off/working classes/lower middle class are effectively barred from leaving / working / studying in Europe, or those from outside suffer the same, while the Etonian bastards can swan around just like they always have done.

That was Cummings plan all along, that's they've kept him, he's a huge subscriber to the Peter Thiel ideology (Paypal founder/Facebook early leading light), as laid out here:
cato-unbound.org

You might not want to read such unbridled bullshit, and I don't blame you, one of the most notorious lines is here:

"Since 1920, the vast increase in welfare beneficiaries and the extension of the franchise to women — two constituencies that are notoriously tough for libertarians — have rendered the notion of “capitalist democracy” into an oxymoron."

But basically the conclusion is democracy and capitalism are now incompatible, so basically it's the former that needs turfing out - the latter can operate in a parallel "hidden state", away from the prying eyes of government, rule of law etc etc.

Today's daily briefing: despite chatter to the contrary it still appears to be the case that Whitty and Vallance are going along with the government's strategy.

Apparently there are still 59,000 people with Covid in the country. They compared this week's hospital admissions (443) to 2 weeks ago (600) rather than last week (431). More massaging of the message. I wonder what will happen if next week's number is, say, 500+?
