The alternative arrangements would have had to be ratified by the 27 individual countries.
So no alternative arrangements agreed by the EU as a whole until we gave in on each of the 27 countries individual wants (Spain vetoing over the Gibraltar issue for example).
So potentially stuck permanently in the backstop. That's wasn't Brexit.

I wonder if Stander really doesn't realise that Johnson's previous WAB was also passed at second reading. Johnson chose to withdraw it, it was at no point blocked by parliament.

Of course I knew JDA - I'm not one of those stupid people. Oh, no wait. I voted Leave.
Therefore I must be stupid. According to this thread.

And I wonder does he also realise that, rather than being some miraculous deal Johnson was able to force out of the EU by sheer magnetism of personality, it was basically what the EU had offered 18 months before but which had been rejected because it breached one of the Government's red lines.
I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing occurs later on this year, though - Johnson gives in to the EU's demands on another whole slew of things and then comes back in triumph as the great victor, having secured a deal.

It just astounds me that for a thread of people self proclaimed to be cleverer than the majority of the voting public, you guys steadfastly refuse to see why May's deal was not brexit.

Under the "logic" of Brexiteers, Johnson's "deal" isn't Brexit either!
And it draws up regulatory divergence between two parts of the UK (NI and GB).
Which to me is even worse than "not Brexit"

It was Brexity enough for Johnson, wasn't it? I forget how many times he supported vs opposed it.

No, actually, Stander, you're clearly not stupid. But you still haven't articulated what benefits leaving the EU will bring. That would help us all understand a bit better.
The reason why this whole thing of Remainers calling Leavers stupid keeps going is that Leavers are intent on pursuing (and have now succeeded in forcing) a course of action which will undoubtedly cause very considerable harm, without any apparent benefits for 99.9% of the population. The only people who actually stand to benefit from it are the vulture capitalists, the extremely wealthy. If I were to ever, once, read a plausible account of how our lives will improve as a result of Brexit, I promise you I will moderate my hostility to the whole thing. But until that, it's difficult not to see the people pressing for it as, at the very least, misguided or badly informed.

Stander, what do you hope to gain by posts such as the one above? Are you looking for an apology? I'm genuinely interested. And just a bit weary.
