Stander: "It just astounds me that for a thread of people self proclaimed to be cleverer than the majority of the voting public, you guys steadfastly refuse to see why May's deal was not brexit."
This is complete nonsense. There is no possible standard definition of Brexit other than leaving the EU, which this is. As a result of it, we would no longer be a member of the EU, ergo it is Brexit. Everything else is down to individual preference.

J2R - there is a standard definition of Brexit for all "true" brexiteers.
It is "whatever I want Brexit to mean" (usually about as hard right - in economic terms - as possible to go)

Or at least that what it seems to me, a simple, stupid remainer who can't understand the wonders of Brexit.

Pretty sure that Maybot said Brexit means Brexit a few times and by that definition, what she negotiated was indeed Brexit. A master stroke
But really it is only now becoming apparent what Brexit means to the people that get to chose i.e. the current Tory party, and it is looking like the kind that will align us more with the USA and less with the continent, as feared and predicted by some on this thread.
Sadly it's probably the only way to go now in order to mitigate the economic damage.

Actually LindsD, you're right.
I'm not going to bother going over old ground any more.

I'm actually serious about desperately wanting to read "a plausible account of how our lives will improve as a result of Brexit", or at least a list of some real benefits. Now it is inevitable that it is going to happen, I want to have some way of saying, "Well, at least it means xxx...". Oh, and getting a blue passport and making the lives of UK resident Polish people miserable don't count as worthwhile benefits for me.

simbil, I think within a day or so of the referendum I posted that my imagined model that Britain would be aiming towards as a result was "Crap Little Imitation America". Nothing since then has changed my mind.

BBC now have the vote split up and I can see now how an 80 majority government got a 124 majority vote when only 6 labour MP's crossed the floor.
It's because 52 (mostly Labour) MP's just didn't vote.

USA model has some benefits - people are on average better off. It could even generate more tax revenue which we could choose to spend on services rather than mainly a huge military like the US does.
It's generally crap for the needy and the environment though. But if you don't care about the needy and don't care/believe in climate change, it really is a no brainer
