If you think "leaders matter" then Corbyn matters as much as Johnson does. You can't have it both ways - either you think the leader matters. in which case Corbyn's and Johnson's personality should be scrutinised equally, or you don't, in which case stop going on about Johnson and giving Corbyn a free pass.

I agree with that in principle JB. But it's about distilling the core virtues of Corbyn or Johnson vs personality types. Corbyn's personality <> strong leader / PM. There's at least an arguable position that Bojo does = strong leader / PM.

But distill into core values and you get honourable, compassionate, egalitarian Corbyn vs dishonourable, entitled, privileged Johnson, and I think it is the core values bit that the cartoon etc was seeking to promote.

I can live with people wanting strong leaders as opposed to values driven individuals; it's where the balance is drawn.

I think it is quite reasonable to believe that Corbyn is a weak leader who will be unable to dominate the govt's agenda in the case of a hung parliament where Labour heads some sort of vague coalition, whereas Johnson with a significant majority will be able to ram through all sorts of damaging legislation.

Why would Labour pick Ian Lavery of all people to voice a video accusing the Conservatives of stealing money from the miners pension fund?

^ in fact given the current polling and well-known antipathy for Corbyn in much of the parliamentary labour party, it really seems to me that the above is pretty much the only reasonable view. People who won't vote labour because they are scared of Corbyn really need a wake-up call.

(I'm not voting Labour because I prefer the LDs and my seat is a safe one, if it was marginal Con/Lab of course I'd vote Labour without hesitation, despite my misgivings over Corbyn.)

The BP candidate for my constituency lives in Brighton Kemptown.

Hmmm...just the 250miles away.

Apparently 140 constituencies have been the same "colour" since WW2. For a lot of us our vote is going to be wasted - yet again. I am struggling to see why this isn't as much of a scandal as the rotten boroughs ever were.

I think the argument that FPTP produces "strong governments" is not only self-serving but factually incorrect when you look at the last 9 years. Labour should throw themselves wholeheartedly into a new constitutional settlement which makes every vote count. Their manifesto says they will call a constitutional convention if elected, but cynic that I am I think it is a long way down the list of priorities and will be quickly put on the back burner if they get into power, which it's unlikely they will anyway.

Ally-C - quite "he's a lovable buffoon", "you can trust what he says". Jesus, do these people have any critical faculties whatsoever?
