If I put you in a room of 100 people and you offered them a choice between buying 2 different washing machines - one at £50 and the other at £250. Which will they go for? If you then spent several hours with the 100 people and explained in detail the various drawbacks/benefits etc, like for example the £250 one will last 10x longer, won't break down and uses 1/10th the electricity and water, then the result will be different. Even if you explain to some this means they'll initially have to save for a month or two to get the more expensive version. (Although instant gratification effect comes in here - short term Vs long term payback). Our political decisions and promises are like the first example. For a real world example I give you brexit. Who talked about real world trade offs? Noone. And if they were brought up at all in was I the wrong way and immediately castigated as project fear. Until we are grown up to demand nuanced and detailed answers from our politicians rather than slogans and soundbytes, the disconnect between reality and political rhetoric will continue.. |

I think if I've learned anything from brexit, it's that logic and rational thinking are only as important as psychology and emotional decision making.

If I've learnt anything from Brexit, it's that logic and rational thought are nowhere near as important as psychology and emotional decision making. But I'm trying to take back control of my decisions |

It's depressing reading that, of the 200,000 starter homes on Cameron's 2015 manifesto, it transpires that not one single starter home has been built. Such is the entrenchment of many voters no one will give a stuff and i doubt it will have any effect bbc.com |

Yesterdays well timed tory announcement was that the threat level has reduced. I wonder what today's will be.

Purdah starts on Wednesday next week I believe. So in the meanwhile plenty of govt announcements of projects, initiatives, reports etc to the govts choosing. Not all will be electioneering. But there's a heavy dose of eyes being rolled. |
