When simbil said "populist right" I naturally assumed that was what was meant. They won referendums and all.

At the risk of coming off as a bought and paid for government lackey, I have to say that within the civil service, at least the UK perm rep to the EU where I work, we have total support and cover from our senior management to resist any attempts to politicize us. It's taken very seriously, the civil service code is highly prized. I can't peak for all of whitehall, of course, and I know there have been a few high profile casualties there already, but I really hope we're taking sufficient action to stop the rot before it spreads too far. **Message from my sponsor ends*** On a different note, prices going up and real wages going down may be an irrefutable fact in a no deal scenario ( or not, of course, it may be unicorns and honey after all :cough ***message from sponsor really does end***), but WHY that's happened will always be up for debate, and there's already groundwork being laid to blame it on those who just didn't believe enough and were determined to do the country down with their remoaning. Furthermore, while in a macro scale it may (cough) end up being a minor blip that evens out in a decade or so, on a micro scale for people who lose everything (jobs, houses, loved ones...), that won't ease their suffering in the short or longer term. Maybe some of them voted for 'it' (whatever they thought it was at the time) but many of them won't have and that won't make them any less dead/homeless/miserable. |

Just a reminder of some of the banter in Sept 2018 about US firms running the NHS and the NHS increasingly becoming privatised. thetimes.co.uk Also wasn't it Jeremy Hunt who started a major decline in NHS services by deliberately screwing it from 2012 onwards. Make it soooo badly run that of course the US services can run it better. So a No Deal would be perfect..... though have to sort out some democrats who might get in the way of a US-UK deal if the Good Friday agreement is not sorted. So perhaps the silver lining is being run by a far more capitalist society who thinks socialism is bad and so privatise the NHS + reduce health further by importing products that contain chemicals that are considered carcinogens by the EU. But do you think NI will reduce? No way... |

It won't be a blip, because its an ideology. And until the ideology is discredited, defeated and replaced, it's where we're at for the long haul.
