I don't think it is really fair to blame the opposition for not making the most of the Arcuri thing. Sad fact is that most of the Bonson fan club just don't give a shit about his corruption and lies, he may be a cheating liar but he's *their* cheating liar and that's all that matters to them.
Opposition has failed in lots of other ways of course...

jda is right, there's pretty well nothing that Johnson could do which would put off his fans. It's just like with Trump. If they did hear something which would be bad enough to put them off him, they would just dismiss it as 'fake news', thus preserving their perfect delusional bubble. For me, by far the worst thing about the whole Brexit business, far worse even than the economic disaster which would follow a No Deal Brexit, is the creation of a world where truth no longer matters. I honestly don't know how we get back from there. If we don't, a full-blown far right autocracy is pretty well inevitable.

I suspect in terms of Arcuri that there's a danger in the simplification of the story for media consumption. I doubt it's as clear cut an abuse of power as it is being painted as being. And whilst I want to see Johnson impaled on as many political swords as possible, I don't actually care about his fidelity etc, providing he doesn't go about philandering in an abusive / coercive / otherwise inappropriate manner.

The latest crop of 'anti-establishment' voters think all politicians are corrupt and self serving so having BoJo presented as such makes absolutely no difference.
There are plenty of Tory voters not happy though - particularly around the dishonour of misleading the queen.
The Tories cannot be both the traditional party and the Brexit Party - they know this no doubt which is why they want to 'get Brexit done' so that they can stop being the Brexit Party and return to their traditions and pull back any disenfranchised Tory voters.

Yes, but there's some value in it becoming a formal prosecution and found guilty. It would be seen externally by other world leaders. I agree, an accusation is of little value.
I'd like to see any charges, if credible evidence, being taken through courts by prosecutor. That's what courts are for. G

Yep, if there is any official malpractice in public office that will definitely carry more weight than just "naughty Boris with his young lady friend" or even the "thigh squeeze" under the table behaviour.
He may appeal to some in the Tory party for those sorts of tittilating behaviours, but I'd expect there would equally be plenty who would recoil.
But offending the queen, getting in trouble with the police etc may well carry a lot mroe weight.

One of the leavers I regularly speak with thinks BJ is great and feels sorry for him..... and she thinks he will get things done.

Have you all seen that conservative MEPs are advertising a support job to start 1 Nov? Suggests they aren't quite as confident as they sound

Do you think Cummings might sack the Queen if she steps out of line?
