Would. You mean could, it could also strongly reaffirm leave.

BTW my previous post was written with no insider knowledge of the EU coming out and stating just now that they think the transition might take 10-15 years. That was obvious from the outset even if no-one was prepared to say it.

Interesting - Extinction Rebellion will be holding demonstrations from the 7th - 20th October to "peacefully occupy the centres of power and shut them down until Governments act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency".... how will the politicians use this for their own purposes?

WS, no, I mean would. I was giving my opinion on what I think would happen. I really don't think the Leave vote has grown since the referendum, quite the opposite (pretty well all opinion polls since then show Remain ahead). Given that the only reason Leavers are now giving for wanting to leave is to 'respect' the referendum result, rather than for any specific imagined benefits, a second ref would rather confound that. Of course, Cummings would undoubtedly come up with some social media shenanigans like last time which could change this. But I hope we would be better prepared next time. I think nobody was really prepared for the sheer brazen dishonesty last time and it caught Remain out. Now in the era of Trump and Johnson we are not so naive any more. |

Yep, Cummings will be drip feeding "get Brexit done" regardless - simple message that is no longer trying to say it is beneficial, just that it is a tedious process. Noises today that there might be a vote of no confidence next week. Opposition need to get behind an interim leader. No idea why Corbyn wants the role - the right will brand whoever takes the position as the surrender PM - better to leave it to an old hat that will step down afterwards. |

Media will gun for him whatever - he'll be the chicken that even his own MPs won't support, or else the surrender PM who collaborated with the EU. One argument that I hadn't previously thought of is that if he's PM for a few weeks or a month, he might start to look Prime Ministerial and not quite as scary as his opponents make out...which would help to explain why he wants the job and why others don't want to give him the chance.

A no confidence vote doesn't necessarily bring a government down any more. I think Johnson would go ok, then GE here we go because he can play they are stopping Brexit, then he'll win off of that, and Brexit happens. Opinion polls had remain win before if I remember rig As I said, I feel a minority of Brexiteers are noisy, a greater number are just waiting to cast their vote when the chance comes. Beware the silent majority. I hope I am wrong BTW. |

Latest poll is 53% Remain 47% Leave. So still too close for comfort, as it was up to 55-45 at one point. Also contradictory messages like more people want no deal than an extension beyond 31st October. I think there is a mistaken belief that a leave with no deal is somehow easier/quicker than an extension. The truth is after a no deal we move into a different kind of deadline, which is how much economic misery can we suffer before we agree to the EU's terms. We will have to negotiate away plenty of things we allegedly should have sovereignty over in that deal anyway. THAT is the reality of it.
