Stander. It was not an instruction, because the referendum question did not have a precise unambiguous course of action. Vote leave, Leave.EU etc all propagated myths and unicorns. Then they voted and campaigned against it when TM brought back her awful hard Brexit. It *is* eminentally possible to leave the EU, but it requires Brexiters to have some humility, reality and an honest conversation with the public about the *real* consequences of leaving the EU. The Barnier diagram: huffingtonpost.co.uk early on described the various options. Unfortuantely what Brexiters want is the obligations of WTO rules only and all the benefits of being in EFTA. *THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE* |

Brexiters don’t want WTO rules. They want a deal. A proper deal. Not one that keeps us linked the to EU rules until the EU decides we are not linked. Which is what May’s “deal” was.

Just all very un-winnable then (so long as the the no-hard border bit is in play)

"Brexiters don’t want WTO rules." How do you presume to know what 17.4 million voters all agreed on? |

And what happens if their agreed outcome is not possible (because it requires agreement with the EU)?

^^ they all do want WTO rules and this mess, ask them, they all tell you they know exactly what they voted for, which is apparently what we have now, because they wont specify exactly what they voted for but don't seem overly happy with having got it.

Stander I believe May's deal - regarding the border issue in Ireland / NI - link to EU was an interim solution until technology could be feasibly be implemented to ensure we didn't screw the EU with say contaminated crap that we have imported from the US ..... and Leave would have happened. (BJ has already indicated earlier that he would be prepared to reduce environmental measures starting with GMO; TM wanted to keep EU environmental regs) |

"Brexiters don’t want WTO rules. They want a deal. A proper deal. Not one that keeps us linked the to EU rules until the EU decides we are not linked. Which is what May’s “deal” was." *This is impossible.* Whether you like or not *any* deal with the EU is going to reqiure some link to EU rules. Plus there's the not inconsiderable issue of the GFA and the border in Ireland. And in any case, the "proper deal" trade offs - what are they and what do they involve? What rights will we lose? (e.g. people living and working in the EU?). What extra costs will be involved? What potential benefits might there be? Until Brexiters can answer *all* questions thoroughly and in a highly detailed manner, they are not being honest. Either with the public or themselves. |

And what about all the posts I read on social media that begin "I never voted for a deal"?

The two brexit placard-waving nutters I've had the misfortune to encounter in the local market square in the past few months seemed to think they had voted for a "WTO brexit". Not sure my ballot paper listed that option, but never mind...
