The stupid thing is that the whole abolition of deputy leader thing is all because they know that if if they stand a candidate against Watson in an election, Watson is likely to win in a general ballot as he's popular amongst the members (just not the nec and Len McCluskey) and won convincingly in the same election where corbyn was elected.
He'd probably win a leadership challenge against corbyn now. Which is why landsman was trying to hamstring him I think.
Fwiw, I don't think corbyn had anything to do with this - it's come from landsman and has the fingerprints of McCluskey....
Mind you the equivocation from the lab MP they put on to comment about it on R4 this morning was awful. I actually felt for nick Robinson! She just wasn't answering what was a straightforward question.

Personally I think the majority of people who voted for Watson as deputy regret that decision and would be glad to see the back of him.

Don't count me in that majority molesy. He's the voice of Labour reason at the moment, something for the sensible wing of the party to cling onto to take heart that the idiots in momentum can't ruin everything good about the party.
