At least we'll find out that the Queen just does what she's told.

I would just love it if the Queen were somehow able to tell Johnson to go fuck himself (albeit not in precisely those terms). What joy it would be to see all the Brexiters with their false patriotism having to include Her Majesty among their 'enemies of the people'!

There's no way the Queen will block it, don't even bother giving it any thought. It's not her job, it would be wrong for her to do it.
What we might see in future is some parliamentary scrutiny / approval on proposals to prorogue to put a check / balance in place.

No, I know she won't block it, it was just a flight of fancy. I do hope she gives Johnson a bollocking, though, for putting her in such an awkward position.

larks - see previous posting on the queen blocking it. She's only meant to go with government on non-controversial measures. Expect she will take legal advice on this. While I think it unlikely she would block, it isn't out of the question and b) extra efforts will be deployed to make sure she isn't even asked. (by legally annulling the PM's request).
But more importantly a new Queen's speech ENDs the current agreement with the DUP. There will be no coalition/confidence and supply agreement in place. They will need to agree a new one. The DUP can threaten to vote down the Queen's speech otherwise... (give us another billion, or we sink you).

Even worse:- ""If MPs pass a no confidence vote next week then we won’t resign. We won’t recommend another government, we’ll dissolve parliament, call an election between November 1-5 and there’ll be zero chance of Grieve legislation,” says senior official."
I'm all for strong government, but it really does feel like Whitehall has far too much power. I suggest a referendum, let's take back control and return to each village making up its own rules, and settling disputes with duels.

DUP have already posted in support of prorogation, sensing a new deal and more cash I suspect as you say Chris.

She may have been watching the Bud light adverts
"Please accompany Sir Brad who will give you a tour of the pit of misery"
Srsly I've thought this likely for a while, and I predict that all hell is about to break loose. If you shut down the only place where nearly half the population feel their views and fears are articulated then you are asking for trouble. I wouldn't be surprised to wake up to find martial law in force and troops on the streets...

Yeah makes sense DUP will support prorogation because it makes the Queen's speech a defacto confidence vote, which means they can threaten to throw their toys out of their pram knowing that it's so important, and Johnson will have to give them what they want.
