I saw Lucas' comments as an interesting stunt rather than a serious proposal. At least, I certainly hope that was what was behind it.

I think it was serious (it was certainly sincere I think).
I don't necessarily agree with the suggestion, but that doesn't make it a bad one and perhaps shouldn't have been pilloried quite as much as it has been.

having now read her letter in the graun, I can't tell if she wassuggesting that the actual cabinet/government of national unity that would take over (providing there's a successful VONC) would be all female, or that gathering a cross party group of women was the best way to start the process of being able to eventually form a cabinet/government of national unity covering the full gender spectrum.

Lucas's idea was shockingly sexist, she attributed qualities she sees as common in men to all men, not treating them as individuals, it's fundamental discrimination.
It's also funny given a woman has very clearly been in charge of and driven the whole Brexit mess until a few weeks ago.
So if anything Lucas is very lucky her career isn't over for such clear discrimination, and apparent stupidity or ignorance.
Or perhaps unlucky not to be PM

It's worse than that. It assumes the correct way to woman is to be nice and kind an cooperative and that being single minded and ruthless isn't how women are. So sexist through and through.

It didn't come across in the proposal, but I think that several of the women do have a bit of a track record in cross-party cooperation which may have been partly what prompted the idea.
Not a great excuse but the best I can come up with! (Actually my wife came up with it, but of course I agree with her...)

I think you're all overreacting to it a bit tbh.
As I say, I don't necessarily agree with the idea, but there is merit to the idea.
And whether or not you like it, it is a reasonably well-known fact that women are generally more open to group co-operation than men. But that doesn't mean all men are single minded and ruthless any more than it means no women are.
I do disagree with the idea, that because of the enormity of the decision, we need anyone and everyone to get behind revoking A50 through whatever method.
But to dismiss the idea as sexist suggests that similar suggestions (e.g. all women shortlists) are also always sexist. But we know that in some situations, such "positive discrimination" is necessary (sadly).

Yes but that kind of nonsense is what makes it hard for women to be leaders/managers both in terms if internal stuff from socialisation and externally - remember the "bloody awkward woman" trope? I'm no fan of May but they never say that stuff about blokes do they? They are single minded and determined...

Until the 2015 election there 18 of the 21 cabinet posts in the Finnish Parliament were occupied by women. The number is still around 11.
I see no problem with effective intelligent women leading this country. They couldn't do a worse job.

Fozzy, whilst I understand what you are saying - now, with Brexit as it is, is not the time for gender politics. We need people, anyone, who can actually work together. There’s barely enough people agreeing that can form a cross-party group without reducing it to women only.
I don’t really agree with her reasoning either. - the women in politics are just as diverse in terms of agenda, personality, bloody-mindedness, selfishness, short-sightedness etc etc. as the men are.
