I've always aimed to use my crystal ball to make a call the night before if at all possible. I'm conscious that we live in a bit of a barren wasteland as far as switching to another parkrun is concerned - the next nearest events are the best part of half an hour away. However, my priority as an ED is to my community, especially my trusty cohort of septuagenarian volunteers, so if I have to cancel on the day, that's what I'll do. And you know what? If I decided to cancel on that basis, and then someone in a cow buff and all the merch came up to harangue me because they'd booked a non-refundable Premier Inn in January simply to win a badge on some app, I'd have no qualms in telling them to do one. If that means they never come back and earn their pirates badge somewhere else, so be it! |

We try to make a call early if can, sometimes doesn't work out that way though, on the other hand sometimes an early call can go wrong too - forecast weather doesn't happen etc. I agree with DeeGee - you also have to think of the volunteers who may be stood out in that for over an hour - many runners forget that bit. |

Feels like a very tough one to call for tomorrow when its the risk of ice because its so hard to know until the morning, so EDs have my sympathy when making these calls (not that they dont anyways).

I had a little stack walking to work today, so it's definitely slippy out there. I'm not RD tomorrow (shame, I like to do a 'bit' about gym membership for the first one in the New Year but I was beaten to it by one of my fantastic regular RDs who've stepped into the breach now all three of the Humberside Ambassadors come from Cleethorpes!) but I'll support whatever decision the RD makes. |

"Course being used for temporary aquarium" is the cancellation reason at Fletcher Moss.

Yes, Fletcher Moss is used a storage basin: the headquarters at the rugby club is around 150 metres from my house; fortunately there is quite a steep rise before the first house. Below is a view of the narrow road leading to the club. To the right there is normally a hedge and fence around the adjacent allotments; I think the hedge and fence have disappeared; I can't get near to verify. I can get onto the course about a mile away and apart from the start and finish area which are under a metre of water, the course is fine and I have trained on it the last two days. Will be weeks before parkrun returns I imagine. |

I've always found it a bit odd that so many people wish to do parkrun tourism in the depths of winter, especially when it involves booking hotels, flights, ferries etc. I guess some of them get addicted to it.
