I guess it would give them a reason to exclude you if they really wanted to (ie you violated the T&Cs ) but in reality they’ve got no way of policing it. In the same way they don’t check your age or gender. If you’d registered under your real name and wanted to change it it might be trickier but unless you were dead set on counting every single run to get to a milestone you could just register a new account t and start again from 1. |

As with all aspects of parkrun I'd, they can't / don't validate anything (as we all know). But they can use the fact that you've not registered with your name as a reason to remove your profile if they did need to do so (e.g. someone perhaps maliciously trying to pretend to be someone else to cause harassment at an event). Basically their ts and cs are really asking you politely to use your own name, rather than come up with some nym like, e.g., Larkim or Fields If anyone knows you in real life it would be odd if they saw your results with a pseudonym I suppose too, and might actually draw attention to the question "why do that"? That said, I know a lot of teachers are given advice by their schools to register on places like Facebook with some mildly disguised name (e.g. just registering with forename and middle name, or switching forename and surname, or using pre-marriage name etc) to avoid themselves being too easily identified on social media, so people may well do similar on other public facing sites like parkrun. |

I wonder what people who have been in prison and got involved with parkrun and want to continue do. I know prisons use town and city names as surnames so on our local prison results all the surnames are names of local places. But I don't know if each prison has say 50 barcodes of names like that so the person who is Freddy Ipswich this week might have been released in a month's time but someone else uses that bar code. And what if you got to 99 parkruns in prison and were then released - do you start again under your own name at 1, which seems a bit unfair!

If you want to use a pseudonym at Parkrun it's fine. They don't broadcast that on the registration form right enough but it's within their policy. There are also lots of silly names on the system but I don't think they worry about it unless it's nefarious in some way. A lot of "Happy Egg" protest names were removed at the time of that uproar, and more recently some of the Save Womens Sport crowd have had accounts locked for using "protest" names shall we call them. |

I’m sure we’ve discussed it before, but it shouldn’t be beyond their capabilities to have a privacy option so results appear as “name withheld”. Of course that is an extra bit of work and an extra thing to go wrong.
