Spied oh your entitled to your opinion but public health officials said otherwise. Yes it first shut down because of a full lockdown but the lockdown didn’t last 17 months. It is a fact that in considering what to restrict associated behaviours are considered as well as the activity itself. The number of people at a parkrun compared to a football match is a valid point but the analogy still stands: the point is the highest risk isn’t at the football match itself and in the same way, the highest risk at parkrun isn’t necessarily the parkrun itself. I don’t want to come across as arguing for a parkrun shutdown because as I’ve said several times it doesn’t look necessary to me. Im just saying there’s more to it than the bit between 3 2 1 go and the tailwalker finishing.

When I was timekeeping on Saturday I noticed one finisher with a facemask pulled under their chin. I assume they had been wearing this at the start when huddled amongst other runners and maybe wore it for the start of the run until the field spaced out a bit.
I also witnessed a dog first in that it was carried round by its owner in some kind of a sling of the sort I have seen babies in.

I can't imagine being carried around in a sling for 5k was a particularly enjoyable experience for a dog - maybe there was some reason though why they couldn't leave it behind/in the car but I think if my dog needed someone with it 24/7 I'd probably choose not to run parkrun with it (although she is 20kg so not suitable for a sling for 5m never mind 5k). That's definitely taking the 'on a short lead' rule to the extreme.

The dog itself was about the size of a rat. The parkrun banner was being put away as they finished and they asked for it to be left so they could get a photo of his first parkrun.....

That's nice. Maybe it's still a pup, and too young to run yet? Or ... are you sure it was actually a dog?
First finisher at Strathclyde had, I think a Bassett hound. Hadn't really though of them as fast 5K dogs. Sub-16. First female was, I think, his sister, pushing a double buggy. 19:10.

Yeah, it was a dog. I think it was a very young pup and one of the miniature variety. I dont think it would have been capable of 5k on its own legs.

(Found a pic online. Disappointingly, more of a spaniel. Never even clocked that the human ran in a Santa suit, nor that the buggy had Christmas lights. Or that the dog had a reindeer outfit.)
