I’m sure Tom Williams tweeted the other day about there being no confirmed cases of transmission at parkrun

[that said, it was worded carefully, and as mentioned before it would be tough to tie it to a parkrun]

I think the risk is probably greatest to the barcode scanners who will have numerous people breathing more heavily in very close proximity albeit for a short time - but then you only need one of the mauve wristbands (or whichever colour it is that is really difficult to scan) taking a bit longer than the rest. Hence why the idea is that there is one scanner per 50 runners. I personally would not worry about catching covid while listening to the RD's briefing at the start or when actually running or marshalling but I am quite nervous about scanning for the next two weeks.

stopwatch bingo for me was completed back in 2014 after 195 runs. That was before parkrun challenge games were a thing, so I didn't even get to "play" it I do like a badge though and I find the parkrun challenge games quite inclusive, you don't have to be first or fastest to get a badge. They were also dreamt up by some parkrun fans, like several other useful online resources, for parkrun fans.

I love the various badges. I’ve been stuck on 95 for position bingo for aaaaaaaages though.

I’ve just seen Netherlands parkruns are “paused” again due to restrictions. Really hoping it doesn’t happen here.

Dvorak you’re confusing two different things when you refer to the framework. I maybe overstated the case when I said it wasn’t about the event itself but I absolutely stand by the fact that it wasn’t MAINLY about the event itself. I’m talking about the views expressed by public health officials in Scotland not about the rhetoric coming from parkrun HQ which systematically failed to take any account of the ‘unintended consequences’ argument.
As I say I’m not arguing that parkrun should be closed again; I don’t think that’s justified at present. But parkrun, in common with every other interest group I can think of, from pubs to churches, simply omitted from their arguments any discussion of how people got there, how they got home, what else they did before and after, etc. The argument about ‘no documented case’ has also been used by everyone. The incubation period is several days so you can’t know where an individual caught it. You can say there hasn’t been a large scale outbreak associated with this or that but you can’t say there haven’t been any cases.

I hope parkruns, as well as other running/cycling/orienteering/outdoor events, do not cancelled.
Stop watch bingo is interesting but I do not keep a close eye on it really. I expect when I get to the last 1 or 2 I will know what they are, but I won't be gaming it. Sometimes (not that often) I 'race' a parkrun, but more usually I use parkrun as part of a longer run, and don't actually start/stop my watch for the event so I don't know what the parkrun time is anyway, until I get the text. I have 56/60 from 175 parkruns.
I missed Saturday's parkrun as I had my 3rd jab on Friday and I was wiped out Saturday. Yesterday I did a couple of Zwift rides and will be back running today

parkrun shut down initially because we were all told not to leave our houses. Not because of people sharing cars to get there, and the delays in the restart was also nothing to do with car sharing or people taking public transport to parkrun.
Potential comparison with the likes of attending football matches doesn't work though as getting special busses booked and crowded trains of drunk people too and from the event doesn't happen with parkrun. Some people may car share to tourist long distances for parkrun, but that is such an insignificant number of people it's not worth counting.
If we are told that we can't leave our houses except for essential food shopping again then parkrun will be stopped. If we just stick with wearing masks, getting vaccinated and work from home where possible then I don't see it being cancelled. Would need some significant additional restrictions at this point for them to be told to shut down.
Transport to and from parkrun, and where you go for coffee / cake afterwards are dealt with by other restrictions, and whilst not being able to meet indoors may be an annoyance for an event it is no reason to cancel it.

That’s not true, we were always allowed out for exercise, just not in large groups. It was the organised group element that prevented parkrun from continuing and it seems very unlikely that it would be banned again though maybe it could be accidentally caught if restrictions are poorly worded.
