Just to back that up - I suspect you're recalling this from the parkrun update on 5th May "Importantly, we will not consider opening parkrun COUNTRIES (my Capitals) anywhere where there is even a small chance of exceeding participant limits for public gatherings at a single event." Given that, in parkrun space, all of the UK is a single country I interpret this as meaning no parkruns anywhere in the UK until all four 'governments' (plus the Channel Islands and Isle of Man) have agreed/authorised unlimited outdoor gatherings without rigorous social distancing - we can't parkrun anywhere in the UK until Bushy can go ahead. It'll be interesting to see what, if any, wriggle room they give themselves if the different UK nations continue to move at different paces - and also if Ireland (a separate parkrun country) relaxes its measures well ahead of, say, England. All academic for now of course |

Andy, that's how I read it too. And then EA will fall in line with whatever the government says regarding restrictions on pubic gatherings, and then parkrun will fall in line with that. That's how I see it playing out, anyway.

I would expect the 4 nations to be follow local rules if the respective govts were sufficiently different in their approaches. But anyway, it's some way off still.

As we've all said, it's a hypothetical question for now but there is a potential challenge looming for parkrunUK (which, by definition, includes all four home nations plus the Channel Islands and the IoM - these are not, currently, different countries in the parkrun world) if the different governments move at different speeds. What do they do about English parkruns, say, if Boris and EA decide 'no more limits on public gatherings in England' at the same time the Welsh Assembly or Scottish Government still feel limits should apply? I'm not suggesting some degree of nuance cannot be applied if necessary - just observing that the public statements to date don't allow that flexibility. The answer, of course, is that none of us know - it will be interesting to watch how it all pans out. Having said all that, it's probably about time for the thread to move onto this week's fake parkrunning plans ![]() |

There is a real danger as well that in the first week back every runner plus all the new ones descend on parkrun in need of an actual race with numbers being vastly inflated.

I have been to Newquay but not to St Ives. We might change our route this week too - a run by the river might be nice ![]() |
