Am I the only one that never really pays any attention to the category? In events of a couple of hundred the sample size of most age groups is so small to be meaningless. Though I suspect that just reflects the fact that I'll almost never be the fastest runner in my age group simply because other club runners in my age group turn up regularly at parkrun - and if they are faster than me in club races, they'll be faster than me at parkrun, unless they're not putting effort in, in which case "beating" them doesn't matter anyway.

parkrun's the only time I'm ever likely to come first, second or third in my age category so I do like to know my age category position. I also find it interesting to look at the results by WAVA, as I fare better by this measure The WAVA record at my local parkrun was set by a VF70 - 93%! Her PB's faster than mine. Goals |

Ive had the odd results email saying I won my category but only because they split senior male (under 40s) into 5 year increments so I won the M30-35 category. Not really that meaningful.

The WAVA record at my home run for my age category is 100.26% so I don't have a chance!

I quite like the categories - a win is a win That said, despite a 9th place once, I've still to come first in any category results......... (and yes, I know it's not a race ) |

jda- "Even that filtered view still leaves you counting for position in category. I do like the font and general appearance but the info is missing!" I don't believe that information was ever there - except in the results emails - I'm sure I've found myself counting for position in the past. I will accept: - I may be mistaken - The reboot as delivered could be conceived as a missed opportunity to add something interesting |

Excuse my ignorance, but what is slack? I'm always angered by my local parkruns using FB for announcements as I only check it infrequently.

"Slack is a cloud-based proprietary instant messaging platform" (Wikipedia definition) - i.e. a bit like WhatsApp and similar

I think Slack is the "behind the scenes" collaboration tool that parkrun are moving to use for staff / run management. Unlikely to affect parkrunners I'd have thought. (Happy to be corrected!) |

Slack is only free for the basics, after that it costs: slack.com
