DeeGee
Have all the advice for core teams, have never volunteered and will thank you very much not to even suggest they should as the mere suggestion offends them.

Metro_nome - i saw one post complaining about having to queue at Eastville to cross the finish line. They had 941 runners and were trying to extend the funnel on the fly. I ended up forming part of a human funnel to try to corral runners the right way. They weren't expecting so many and did a fantastic job

I saw that post to MetroNome. I suspect the poster has never actual RD'd at an event & rocks up with his dog every week and never volunteers whilst complaining about how others are organising and event! :)

I'm sorry but 5500 people moving at pace on narrow paths is no place for dog and humans to be interacting. The sooner dogs at parkrun are banned the better IMO (controversial but that is my own personal opinion after seeing and almost being a victim of a fall/incident on an increasingly regular basis. Not to mention how threatening it is to hear a barking dog approaching you as you run! And that's before we even consider small kids and allergies as DeeGee mentions.

I have actually have a bit of an issue with the request for buggies and dogs to start at the back. often times these are some of the quickest runners, and I've seen buggies have a nightmare of a time trying to safely manoeuvre through the pack as they overtake everybody. I think common sense needs to be applied- if you're going to run sub-20, whether you have a dog, buggy or otherwise, it doesn't make sense to start at the back
