Cerrertonia
But only slightly, because none of this matters very much.

First I've heard of people wanting runs and volunteers to be counted towards the same milestones. Not aware of their being any strong sentiment towards wanting that, just more milestones for volunteering itself as a separate thing.
Not listened to part 2 yet, but I suspect the focus group is Tom and sounds like coming up with ideas to justify something after they have done it. Like the reasons he gave for getting rid of the points table.

Like it or not, Tom is one of the key influencers of parkrun's direction and right in the middle of the inner circle of those who design its strategy. I doubt he's publicly saying anything that isn't said and agreed privately in parkrun HQ amongst their senior staff.

Yes, but I'm not sure that they actually listen to anything much from outside their bubble. And if they do just write it off as people not "getting" parkrun.

Agree with Spideog & larkim but I'd have been surprised if Tom's angle were any different.

Perhaps you should have proposed a question. He was pretty clear that he'd answer everything that was asked of him.

It sounds very much as those answers were the official HQ line as they largely mirror what was said in reply to an email I sent to HQ when all this kerfuffle started (a reply which was quite a long time in coming - maybe I wasn't the only one ;-)). If that's the case, I might have expected the answers with regard to the use of the word 'physical', and the 'negative' language of 'giving back', to be more fluent, but I did feel he floundered at times to get his point across.
Anyway, I've moved on, I still enjoy a run in the park with nice people, I still volunteer because it's fun to give back and I shall try to not let HQ corporate-speak annoy me too much

Sigh
Stuck on some low-participation conf calls so will have a listen later.
ION: Anyone else get the S*r*va-themed email from parkrun that states: "At parkrun, we reward participation over performance."
Reward both, fine. Rewarding one over the other - really???

I think anything I may have asked was covered by others already in the question blog post.
It comes with the job admittedly, but how he was answering the questions in part 1 seemed to be more from the politician handbook of dealing with questions and switching a question around to the one that he wanted to answer instead. For example why get rid of the points table and he talked at length about races (which were all very good points and he did explain very well how parkrun is different, but he's preaching to the choir) and then gave that as a reason for the demise of the points table... which doesn't match with the version of events given at the time.
He did mention that he just didn't like the points table as the actual reason as the end of that section, but that is nothing to do with his long explanation about races.
Will have a listen to part 2 on the way home.
