Merely got cold rather than wet at the cricket, TS. This despite three thermal tops and two coats. Re injuries, a couple of physios I have used use both still and video: actually easier to make muscle comparisons in stills. Wordle in four. |

Torque Steer
Hotels were chosen for proximity to very flat surfaces for Mrs TS to gain confidence in walking and as a result I found myself doing some early morning walk/runs along canal towpaths A question of etiquette arose - who has priority on a canal towpath when it is very narrow, flanked on one side by impenetrable brambles, dog roses and nettles and on the other by the canal? Most folk I met were very pleasant , plenty of pleases and thank yous as we passed by, but on one particularly narrow stretch I could see two mountain bikers coming towards me at a furious pace and almost side by side. There was literally nowhere for me to go so I braced myself for a possible collision, making sure i wasn't going into the canal. Bikers finally saw my bulk and hard braking, skidding ensued, finally stopping just short of me. Lead rider turned out to be female and gave me a torrent of abuse for not getting out of the way. I politely (well nearly) asked her where she expected me to go as even at walking pace she couldn't easily get her bike past me. More words and then they got back on bikes and pedalled off again at the same furious pace!! No such problems this morning other than flying branches, leaves, and torrents of very hard chestnuts being torn off trees in strong winds and scattered on the paths as I completed 3.1 miles in 40:45 of 1min walk/run with HR124/149 as I had to extend the hill bit part of the run. I'd be just behind the sweepers in the local parkrun Wordle in two yesterday (I had the last three letters in order in one) and four today |

I believe that you had the right of way if we go by the spirit of the new Highway Code, TS: priority is given to the most vulnerable, so pedestrians, cyclists then vehicles in that order, not that you were on a highway!

Nice part of Yorkshire @Torque Steer and where my youngest daughter was born. I lived in Ripon for over six years. Your encounter with mountain bikers is becoming a more common occurrence locally as is three or four people walking a breast of a pavement and expecting you to move. I never argue and think of Karma 🤣 Incredibly windy here today and rain forecasted for the morning. I think a lie in rather than parkrun may be in order 😁 |

TS: Glad you had a good holiday and Mrs TS got her hat.In my past life I managed a running shop in my spare time- so know all too well about spending money or these lovely shops will be gone from the high street forever. Wordle in one today-just a lucky first word |

No doubt of priorities. They were in the wrong.

Canute
@Torque Steer I am happy with the analogy of two bald men fighting over a comb, though I have never been concerned about having nicely combed hair, so we are unlikely to come to blows. Today I did my 4th modified C25K session: I increased the jog duration from 60 to 90 sec and decreased the walk duration from 90 to 60 sec. I included 16 repetitions within an overall distance of around 5Km. I am mainly focussing on keeping stride length short to minimise impact. As I have a more reliable feel for cadence than stride length, I maintain a cadence at around 185 /min, which at my gentle jogging pace, corresponds to a stride length in the range from 70 to 75 cm. My average HR was 113, but on a few occasions reached 120. In the past I would expect a HR below 100 when jogging. But if current progress continues, I hope that I will soon be able start rebuilding aerobic fitness. For those doing parkrun tomorrow, I hope you have an enjoyable time. Although I am not focussed on pace these days, I continue to be inspired by the amazing performances of many on this thread. |

@PeterFay thanks - as it should be. I was alright for me but others could be seriously worried about such an encounter @Solo so we were neighbours Some think they are Tom Pidcock! Canute good progress in the comb stakes As a comparator, according to Garmin, my run cadence is 181-183, walk 121-123, and a run stride length of around 0.82m. That currently gives me a run pace of around 10:40 to 11:10 depending upon terrain. 49m of climb this morning over the second half pushed the figures up a bit Garmin also uprated my predicted maxHR to 170 this morning (not sure how!) and I know my RHR (sleep induced) is 36 with a waking one of around 44. Vo2 max is only 40 currently, it was over 50 not so long ago so lots to do particularly on th eweight front where several days of hotel food & drink has not improved the situation!! |
