Oops. Something went wrong. Somehow posted that only part way through? Problem of thick thumb and a mobile phone... (& half falling asleep while typing it!).

Impressive long run @EarlyRiser. In prep for my last couple of HM's I did 1x 20 - 22 km long run with the rest in the 16 - 19 km range.

@Welshpoppy hope things do improve soon so you can start proper training for your HM.
@Torque Steer that was a very good effort especially given ~90m elevation gain. Knee still OK?
Will aim to be more consistent in the lead up to the next HM @alehouse. Unfortunately home-work situation means it won't always be possible ☹️.

Would love to join in some of the club training sessions. Certainly my best chance of improving on the Bermuda performance but timing and location of the sessions make them difficult for me to fit in.

This morning's run very similar to yesterday - 8.4 km at 6:11 m/km. Still easing back into it so just a steady run with no faster reps.

@Welshpoppy oh dear, that's not good news - any other symptoms other than elevated RHR and general "offness" ?

@Canute - we have one mutual target in mind for next year - attaining 80 :-)!!
Good to hear your knee problem has receded completely and you can run trouble free.
My knee not so much - it is actually less troublesome when running but doesn't like being inactive and will seize up with painful consequences on resuming movement until I can get it unlocked!

100km sounds much more impressive than the imperial equivalent :-)

I have started to mildly expand my upper body exercises, seeing as I have weights in my hands to do the more advanced strengthening exercises prescribed by the physio, but there is some way to go to recover my Adonis like sculptured body :-)

@NZD checks and balances - stuff continues to get in the way!
That was still a decent pace for your run as you find your way back after all the travelling and interruptions.

Lovely chill and sunny morn here - legs weren't quite so happy after yesterday's excursion and some toughie exercises so I did a 30 min dawdle for 2.7 miles - HR was only 122/138 which belied the perceived effort!

Wordle in five, so streak of threes broken!

And talking of 80, was out with my M79, soon to be 80, neighbour this morning. Taper run for him (cross country next Saturday) and the longest run since last Feb for me: 38 minutes 53 seconds. Plan was not to exceed 40, so timed it nicely. Hopefully similar next Monday as he recovers from racing.

5 degrees but bright sunshine. Then cross training in the garden, which I seem to have neglected. So back to it in a minute!

Hope you can get that knee sorted @Torque Steer. Any net improvement outside of running over the last few months?

Net slower & hillier local run this morning, 67 min / 10.5 km, with 212 m elevation gain.

@alehouse good timing on your run and good to have company to assist in the target.

Gardening xtraining is something I have to look forward to... the snow brought down even more branches than the gales did and I need to get out and rake them all up once the ground has sufficiently dried up.

@NZD into the hill country I see:-)
It's always surprising what effect the climbs can have on overall times, the downhills never seem to fully compensate.

The knee is more stable, thanks, and so less weight/stress particularly in eccentric movement is going through the joint, and all my exercises are directed to improving that situation.

I currently have eight separate ones which I do three times a week and have extended them to my right leg as well as a precaution!
There is nothing that can be done surgically at this stage as the meniscus is intact and the bony projections of the osteoarthritis can't be removed.

By chance I came across this Youtube video by two Canadian doctors, essentially a public information piece -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1fCrLbpVGo

which is a very good debunking of "remedies" whilst not denying that some things may improve symptoms. Cuts through a lot of the quackery!!

Run tonight and i have set myself the target of running to the pub venue 2 miles away and then running the trail- getting a lift home afterwards though:-)

Good to hear your knee is more stable @Torque Steer . Hopefully improving further over the next few months.

No run this morning. Seems I picked up a viral infection of sorts in the last days of my travels. Had a scratchy throat yesterday and this morning at 4 am woke almost not able to breath ☹️. Took more than 5 minutes before I could get more than the tiniest amount of air in. Then a further 15 - 20 minutes until breath was more settled. By then ambulance had arrived & after checking me out decided to take me into hospital (c. Half hour drive away). Just been discharged, waiting for OH to come and pick me up (with g'kids in tow!). Seems most likely swelling of throat, exacerbated by dry throat & sleep apnea? Negative for covid according to RAT's done by both ambulance and hospital. Hospital also did a PCR but don't have result from that yet. Hmm.

Canute, good going at 79- keep it up 👍
Congrats on the long run Alehouse, sounds like an inspirational neighbour.
TS good news on the knee. Mine is still troublesome.
NZD what a scare, glad you are well enough to be released. Hope the grandkids weren't too shocked by it all.

G'kids seemed to handle it OK, @OO61. Thanks
Hospital Dr phoned this afternoon and said the PCR results for flu, RSV, and Covid were all negative. And chest x-ray 'normal'. So seems just a regular cold virus / throat infection. Still a bit scary though.

@NZD - that was a a very nasty experience for all involved!!

Nice to see some prompt action and investigation in resolving the matter. Any idea how long the infection may last?

@OO61 does your knee act up during a run or after one?

Whilst mine is slowly improving if one heard my scream of anguish on occasion when standing up you may not think it is that much better :-)

Well my run to the venue last night ws forestalled by a really heavy downpour of freezing rain so I succumbed to having a lift there - and back!
Just under 4 miles enlivened by being enmeshed in a local running club's training session doing reps. I was greeted by an old running acquaintance in the group with - "bloody hell, I thought you must be dead" so, of course I had to keep pace with them until the end of that rep and then slunk off round a corner to recover :-)

Garmin said 30 min at 10:30m/m pace this morning which I again did not manage but did 2.78 miles in the 30 min at 10:50m/m pace with HR 130/145 as I pushed it a bit over the last mile or so

Wordle in three - curses on yesterday's wrong guess :-(
