A few thoughts on yesterday! @Torque Steer: that 10:45 pace was far too ambitious! 65 minutes was fairly ambitious in itself! I think you need to run for that length of time within your comfort zone; the pace will come in due course. And that is probably the advice that you would give others; take the positive: five miles is a decent effort compared with recent months! As @Canute @hints, I am content merely to be running, whatever the distance and pace, and that is the main thing that I am taking from yesterday’s 5k excursion. A very gentle 2k today on evenly tired legs, in pleasant sunshine (9 degrees). May well be the calm before the storm, given the forecast of sub zero temperatures, wind and snow. Wordle in six yesterday, three today, and could have been two! |

@alehouse good to see a recovery run with no ill effects after yesterday thanks - 'tis okay - I looked at Garmin yesterday and thought its recommended workout looked a bit off before setting out I have done three 5+ mile runs over the past few weeks, as well as 20+ m/w and I was keen to see whether I could approach my mythic LT level as calculated by the same Garmin - got nowhere near it, the first 3 miles were 127/145 despite 42m of ascent and that probably blew the doors off :-)! Very gentle 2 miles today with one burst of 200m at 8m/m pace in the middle just because I could... Wordle in three |

Big strides in performance @alehouse and @Torque Steer. Looking good for both of you in the new year. Hope the calf settles quickly @Welshpoppy. Not normally as big a problem as hamstrings, etc. Will be interesting to hear what goals you do set for your 80th, @Canute. Haven't done too well on my targets for 'this year' ('this year' being 'before turn 77' in about 6 weeks); sub-40 parkrun (best 24:10), sub-50 10k (51:30, & now out of opportunities), sub-1:50 HM (still 3 weeks off, but currently not up to scratch to achieve even close to that, especially on a reasonably tough course). Variable 13.3k this morning, including 5x random efforts (390m @ 4:51, 460m @ 4:50, 280 @ 4:44, 280m @ 4:55, 550m @ 4:58). Calves (esp R) still stiff after Sundays 19km. |

Oops. Just re-read. First target was of course "sub-24 parkrun" not sub-40!

Best wishes for 2025 everyone! Stay healthy and injury free! Short run d&d. Good first half performance, @Torque Steer. Men against boys (the boys won; United played like a bunch of old men, even the youngsters!). Wordle in five. |

@NZD Happy New Year way down under:-) " you can only do what you can do" I know only too well how much other events can disrupt a training regime and the knowledge that one has come away from an event having done the best one can on the available resources is enough - and you have done very well this past year on that score. @alehouse - am I still smiling :-)?? BTW there was only one United playing last night - and they were in black and white! @Welshpoppy watch that calf - if the pain is that bad it needs rest and treatment On a whim, and seeking some shelter in the trees from the increasing wind, I turned onto a footpath and a route that I have not risked for over a year. Only 3.65 miles but with 141m of climb it is quite taxing. HR 12/138 for the 44 min but I finished with a smile and a very sore knee - good exchange Happy New Year everyone - I hope all aches and pains disappear and the roads and paths are smooth in the coming year. |
