Fragile Do Not Bend
A year or so the optician told me I had the beginnings of a cataract. It’s more noticeable now and stronger contact lenses do nothing to improve the vision in that eye so I guess I’ll be getting surgery at some point.

I really feel old now 😭

Did you have one or both eyes done DT? When I asked the optician she said my brain would get confused by having such differing prescriptions - i.e one eye not having any short sight due to the surgery and the other being around -9. I’m a bit sceptical about that being an issue.

Pre-op my prescription was around -9 right and - 4 left. I had my right done first. I could see quite well then for distance and drove after a few days. Close up stuff ie laptop was tricky. Three weeks after right I had my left done. Distance is now good and legal to drive according to optician. Driving feels fine. The problem all along has been close up. I have astigmatism and no off the shelf correction works well. Books and phone are okay. Laptop a big problem. I've now had eye tests and will have variofocals by next weekend. My right eye was terrible. It's been a faff but hopefully will be well worth it. I doubt I'll wear the glasses most of the time, but will use them like readers. We'll see ;-)

Getting old is better than dying. I'm philosophical. I like stories about long lasting bands like the Rolling Stones or the Temptations where it's said the Stones had a poor Nineteen Eighties say. The last few years have been a bit challenging for me with the best part of a year being treated for cancer and over six months away from work slowly going mad and getting angry on furlough. A few weeks getting my vision sorted isn't that big a period out of not off off sixty years

My optician tells me that my AMD is stable on the retinal photographs even though lines wobble about and change erratically.
My dry eyes, particularly in the L eye (same eye as the AMD but I don't think they are connected) is getting worse, such that the L eye vision is blurry even with the eye drops, but the optician basically ignores it and just tells me to continue using the eye drops. Might be time to try the optician in my village.

No sign of any cataracts at the moment. :-)
