I’ve never been to Butlins but have a cousin who has spent his entire working life at Butlins Skegness. He must be near retirement by now, if not already retired. On my one and only visit to Butlins in 2002, I saw our cousin - he was the spitting image of his dad so I was confident enough that it was him, to go and introduce myself. |

We went to Butlins at Skeg Vegas every year. But only so the coach could drop off the inmates. Then we went to Ingoldmells. Skegness was considered a bit rough. This, of course, was when Ingoldmells was a nice quiet little village. |

Are the fleshpots of Ingoldmells now a seething cauldron of bawdy licentiousness?

I think the word is "tacky "! You have to embrace it, and enjoy the experience- or avoid the area, and go somewhere more "refined". (Frinton on Sea? ) |

We lived in the US when I was 4-6 and a half so holidays were of the Bill Bryson variety going all over in a car. Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and a train trip to Hudson Bay in Canada were favourites. Best bragging rights in Scotland were from having been to the Devil's Tower once Close Encounters came out a few years later. Back in the UK my grandparents in Wharfedale were the usual destination, with honourable mentions for Northumberland, Lake District and best of all a cottage in Pembrokeshire. Always before the English school holidays so we'd have places to ourselves. Scout camps were the other adventure, mostly Scotland or the Lake District, but including Kandersteg in Switzerland in 1980 (nightmare of ferry and coach to get there from Glasgow, wonderful location). |

Butlins at Barry Island provided summer jobs for a few of my fellow 6th formers. The tales they told of shenanigans in the kitchens made me determined I would never have a Butlins holiday

LazyDaisy I'm sure we'd never eat out anywhere if you knew what went on behind the scenes

Learning about the three second rule that is common practice in some kitchens has always made me cautious about where I eat out.
