Sharkie, you're my age and even the thought of training for a heptathlon is way beyond me. Well done, you. I'll follow your progress.

My non retiring friend is content, I think! His wife is still working which may influence his decision too.

I really enjoyed my job and would have happily continued to work if I could have reduced hours, but my employers would only offer to reduce my week by one day. At sixty five I wanted to have some more time for myself and Sherry, but an extra day off a week wasn’t enough. |

All this talk of retirement is a bit of a dream for us at the entry end of the thread! For now I'll keep entering the lottery! |

55 this year but a long way from thinking about retiring. I quite enjoy my current job - hard work but low stress if that makes sense, mostly nice people, easy commute plus the ability to WFH 2-3 days a week since Lockdown. Despite that, if it all comes crashing down (most likely because we get bought out by another company and my role / team is surplus to requirements), at that point I'll probably say "ah f*** it" and look to retire or semi-retire. I have no appetite for re-entering the competitive job market again in my late 50s. Last time it was f***ing brutal and I ain't going back there. |

That's very true, Fitz. I was 50 the last time I was looking for a job and it was a horrible experience.

Actually, I was 49 when I began. I ended up leaving my old industry because I couldn't get a look-in.
