Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sharkie, you're my age and even the thought of training for a heptathlon is way beyond me. Well done, you. I'll follow your progress.

My non retiring friend is content, I think! His wife is still working which may influence his decision too.

I really enjoyed my job and would have happily continued to work if I could have reduced hours, but my employers would only offer to reduce my week by one day.
At sixty five I wanted to have some more time for myself and Sherry, but an extra day off a week wasn’t enough.

All this talk of retirement is a bit of a dream for us at the entry end of the thread!

For now I'll keep entering the lottery!

55 this year but a long way from thinking about retiring. I quite enjoy my current job - hard work but low stress if that makes sense, mostly nice people, easy commute plus the ability to WFH 2-3 days a week since Lockdown.

Despite that, if it all comes crashing down (most likely because we get bought out by another company and my role / team is surplus to requirements), at that point I'll probably say "ah f*** it" and look to retire or semi-retire.

I have no appetite for re-entering the competitive job market again in my late 50s. Last time it was f***ing brutal and I ain't going back there.

That's very true, Fitz. I was 50 the last time I was looking for a job and it was a horrible experience.

Actually, I was 49 when I began. I ended up leaving my old industry because I couldn't get a look-in.
