57.5, I recently asked one of my older friends who has just turned 70 when he planned to retire. He has no plans because "I don't have enough imagination to do anything else".
How sad!

3M, one thing can be said for the old boy, he knows his limitations. It is sad though really.

Visited the Sammy Miller motorcycle museum last week, Sammy is still in his workshop 6 days a week at 87 but there’s a difference between a job and ‘your passion’ if your passion is your job you won’t retire!

I’ve started two volunteer roles since retiring and am having a great time. One day a week I help a man with muscular dystrophy who has a “no dig” small holding. He’s quite an incredible character! On another day I help in the gardens at Cogges Manor Farm in Witney. It’s an historic heritage centre and has been used in quite a few episodes of Downton Abbey. The rest of the week I just potter around doing various projects at home. The latest is to make a bird table for my daughter. Decorating is also on the list, but keeps slipping down as more interesting ideas crop up!

These are all very interesting ideas. I think I shall learn new skills or activities. I will not be doing gardening or decorating, and projects sound far too much like work to me.

Unless you choose a 'project' like SWCP, a week at a time. But we have chosen, and still sticking with, 'no commitments' that tie us to anything.
MMM - sad? or is he happy with his life as is? If so, carry on enjoying it and no need to change.

TBH decorating is not a pastime, it’s a chore and if it’s affordable may well get someone in to do it.

I like the sound of the volunteering roles and one I may look into.
I had half an idea of doing an OU course or some kind of studying as well.

Since I retired, I have done no formal studying. In my 29 years of working in a hospital diagnostic laboratory I spent a total of 11 of them studying for various BTEC, BSc and MSc courses. On top of those I had to undertake CPD, teach trainees, learn about new diagnostic techniques and equipment, so I never seemed to have a break from some kind of studying.
That doesn't mean I don't do some studying now, although it is more of keeping up to date in some things. I still have a thirst for learning new science, especially in health matters, which is why I was happy to write all those blogs about Coronavirus last year, and why some of my other blogs contain various interesting health related facts.
Due to working in a regional cardiothoracic hospital, which was a centre for Cystic Fibrosis patients so I was diagnosing their respiratory infections, I have become quite excited by a recent new drug which may transform the lives of many CF patients. I may be very tempted to write a blog about that as well .
See, no formal studying any more, but plenty of study of interest.

We volunteered at our local CAB for the first year after we retired but it was too emotionally draining so we gave it up. Still thinking about something else to do….
