I was useless at school ball sports. However, I was good at shinty (not so good at hockey because the natural way for me to hit the ball was with the "wrong" side of the stick!) I was very good at rounders because I could run fast - to field and to get rounders . Plus when I was batting, I used to confuse the fielders by using different hands - they never knew which way the ball was going to go !
Being otherwise poor at ball games, I remember in one PE lesson we were playing basketball I had the ball just inside the opposition's half, and my team mates were yelling at me to give them the ball. Instead, I stopped and had a pop at the basket - and it went in! They were dumbfounded! They couldn't believe that someone as "useless" as me had scored from so far away!

We had games for 1 afternoon each week. The first 2 years was rugby for 2 terms, then cricket. Form 3rd year, we could opt for hockey instead of rugby, & tennis instead of cricket.
PE was either gym, swimming or 5-a-side in the sports hall. Occasional volleyball with a new PE teacher. Maybe 1 or 2 'athletics' sessions pre sports day, and a mandatory annual cross country run on the last Friday before Xmas. Also had after school fencing for a few years.

Ness, that was in preparation for a return to studying piano in uni after a two year break. I only lasted another year, then ran out of money as tuition in Canada was somewhat costly. It was enough to give me a good grounding in piano to be able to teach myself...I look forward to retiring and being able to return to my musical life...or pick up from where I left off.

Learning to play the piano is on my ‘to do’ list for when I retire.

Sounds good Ness. I miss being a musician as it was part of my life and identity for a long time...up until I was 30 and moved here permanently. I have hacked about on flute periodically but running takes over...whereas in a past life, music would have superseded everything!

Ness, I have always said I would love to have learned to play the piano...it might be something I look into after this fiasco is over and done with

I had lots of lessons as a child and then lost interest. I can still play a melody with one hand but wanted to be able to do more. About 10 years ago, I started having lessons again but at the time, wasn’t able to dedicate the time and energy to practising so stopped.
Maybe I’ll give it another go when I retire ...

I had piano lessons as a child and was quite enthusiastic, but drifted away when it was clear that I wasn't God's gift to music.

My memory of Scottish country dancing at school is exactly the same as Baz! But I was glad of it later living abroad. Wish I'd have stuck at the bagpipes for the same reason.
Flatlander - My best friend at school age 11 was the son of one if the movers and shakers in local shinty. As a budding dentist I refused to play for the sake of my front teeth.
Ness - I think my PADI certification swim was probably the only proper open water swim in my life. But it was in the shallows of a Caribbean beach so I could conceal my swimming ineptitude.
