WS, that is absolute nonsense regarding ice cream. Some products may not have the highest quality base ingredients, true (rather too many based on skimmed milk powder) - it does not make them "sweetened lard".

WS, can you find a single brand of ice cream that (a) contains no milk products or (b) contains lard? I'd be surprised, though I suppose there may be some specialised varieties for lactose-intolerant people. In fact I suspect there is probably an EU directive about ice cream... |

That was Thatcher who invented the air, water, glycerine mix that used to be called ice cream. Then the nasty EU put a stop to it by insisting that it actually contained cream. (just about all of the above is untrue) |

There was an EU directive about British Ice cream, 2013, British Ice cream didn't meet it, i.e not enough milk. Look it up.

[citation needed]. I tried. All I could find was a number of pages saying the opposite - that regulation was actually slackened by following the EU regulations, when previously, to be labelled as ice-cream, a product "had to contain a minimum of 5% fat (dairy fat only) and 2.5% milk protein." dairyscience.info scotsman.com |

AR you are lucky to live near enough to a dairy farm that does make it properly. The nearest to us is a dairy over in the Peaks a bit of a trek but we pop in on the way back if we have been hiking nearby. tagglanedairy.com A bit better than your supermarket shite and a bit better environmentally than your Ben and Jerry's. |

Badger is quite right. The 2013 EU definition allowed products to be called ice cream if they contained no dairy products whatsoever, unlike the previous UK regulation: You need to look specifically for dairy ice cream if you want to be sure of a dairy content. |
