57.5 Degrees of Pain
Going back a few days, I can't believe Dvorak was standing around at gigs. Get down in the mosh pit and put in a cross training session 😉!

Very good dedicated hour long session of high jumping at Lee Valley for me yesterday, when I worked on Canute's very useful ideas.

You know how I GO ON A BIT, so I'm even attempting to précis here. If you're intersted I'm writing a series of blogs about it and the first one is there.

I know it's all a bit niche so I won't be upset if you're not!

I seem to have stumbled into the prospect of a racing season (crept up on me, it did ninja), and have been having a look back at my training log for previous successful racing seasons.

I was reminded that in 2014, as a "new" and still premenopausal 50-year-old, I was intimidated by seeing how much running I'd managed to do when building up for an unsuccessful tilt at a half marathon PB when I was a nipper of 46.

I'm now quite intimidated at how much running - in addition to cycling - I managed to do when I was a nipper of 50, in no doubt about my ability to recover from hard sessions and races, and preparing for a marathon followed by a successful attempt at a 10-mile PB.

My mileage is way off. The speed my legs are willing to do at a relaxed effort level in training is way, way off. The amount of cycling I'm doing is negligible, which is slightly of concern since my main target event is a bike ride. My climbing has not deteriorated at all.

I've done what I always do first and dragged out the books. Next, I need to choose target events, make a training plan that's vague enough for me to have a chance of adhering at least to the spirit of it, and blog a bit about running, just like I used to.

Ah, the gulf between knowing what you need to do, and actually getting down to doing it - Very Very Wide!

Just been for my old person's health check to be told I have high blood pressure. I have to wear one of those 24 hour monitor thingies (but not till the middle of May when they have one available). The nurse pointed out the section about portion size in the brochure she gave me! Humph.
