Steve45, looking back I see you raised the interesting question of whether we should aim for the same weekly total time running or the same weekly mileage, as the years go by.
If you want to get as fit as you can, my experience suggests that the answer is keep total weekly time approximately constant.
In my younger days when I was training seriously I ran a little over 100 mpw at an average pace a little faster than 6 mm pace (i.e. about 10 hours per week). That was about the limit of what my body could cope with without undue stress. Perhaps if I had done more slow running I could have done a little more time and distance, but I think that is a fairly good estimate of what I could cope with.
In my mid 60’s when I was training in a fairly consistent manner, I was running about 60 mpw at an average of about 10 mm (i.e. 10 hours per week). By that stage I had developed a procedure for monitoring for signs of over-training (based on HR, HRV and subjective experience) and I adjusted training volume to keep me a little short of the over-training threshold.
Good to see that many of us are getting out for a run in the wind and snow this weekend. I have had some good runs and have written a blog about them.

We didn't get much snow here (Gloucs) and what we did have has been disappearing as quickly as it arrived. So with the paths clear I've just got back from a run. It was at a fairly leisurely 11:23mm pace and at the moment my 'usual' average pace of between 10:40-10:50mm seems beyond me at present. However, after a layoff for most of last summer, although it may not sound much, today's run of 5.8mls is actually my longest distance since last April.

Thanks Canute, that makes a lot of sense to me. I may well take on that regime.Great conditions down here in south east Wales today with all snow gone and no wind. Ran along trails with my wife at a steady pace for five miles. your pace is near enough the same as mine WtnMel though if I'm in good shape I can push for 10mm for a good distance..right now that's not the case! Different topic: I've been wearing Injini socks for a month now and they make a world of difference to the way I seem to push off, land etc. They are socks with individual toes and for those with not perfect feet/toes ..they help! They also seem to give a better space within the toe box of the shoe.

steve, I like those socks too...they allow my toes to open/spread out a bit more than normal socks.

Must admit, haven't come across those Injini socks before. That's because I've discovered I get on fine with Hilly twin-skin socks which I find very comfortable so not been looking for any replacements. In fact, I've just 'ordered' some more of the same from my eldest son for my birthday!

I like those Hilly socks too, someone bought me a pair of injini and I just found that the spread toes worked wonders. I have godknows how many various socks though and use them all! Generally I use cheap and cheerful pairs which I use for short runs--and I wear them inside out to avoid the seam being a nuisance.

Off-topic .. but just back from my first golf lesson (have signed up for a player development programme to improve my game). Having been filmed and shown what I wasn't doing right and then shown what I should be doing - when practising after the lesson I was suddenly hitting the ball straighter and further - spooky or what!

I was videoed once as part of a Pose running session. eL Bee! still tells his coachees about how Dr Romanov asked me what I thought my back leg was doing, and I said I was totally unaware of my back leg.
